DIY SSQA forks?

/ DIY SSQA forks? #61
I compromised on mine, I was parting out my old #3000 forklift so I bought the ssqa forklift plate and used my old forks and works great. I can widen or narrow the forks to what I need. Saved me half the cost of the whole thing.
I put some of my implements and what not on pallets so I can move them around and it's nice to be able to get in the smaller and larger pallets.
Could I have used a non moveable one, Yeah, but I really liked being able to use it for more stuff. I used the forks more than the 4-1 hyd bucket for all the logs I moved and was able to narrow the forks to the middle to lift the stumps.

My issue on bucket forks was the side to side movement and the weight cap reduction moving the lifting point 2 or 3 feet away from the pivot pins. If you only have one thing you need it for then that's great.
As much as I try to do things right I KNEW -I- would go over board on both and end up screwing something up.

My used tractor came with horrendous chain-on forks with turnbuckles.

It was not possible to clamp them on the bucket tight enough to keep them from swinging, so I had to get out of the seat a lot to straighten them. The bucket added useless weight and length and reduced the capacity. The turnbuckles and chains bent the bucket. They just were not good.

I cut them up and used the tines to make a QA fork, and it has been wonderful. I managed to bend a tine on a huge pile of hurricane debris, however, so I need to fix it.

I welded this set a couple years ago and I’ve lifted 1 ton loads with those forks. If you weld all the way up the back of the fork like I did it should be a non issue. Thats more load than the bolt of forks that are probably just tubes are going to withstand.
Same but I converted a New Holland skid steer to Bobtach for my tractor. has lifted everything from 2400lb 90" long pallet's from box trucks to 3000lb full concrete pallets to a 14' long scraper to remove rock from a trailer bed.

I would not want fixed forks though. Need to be able to adjust if moving pallets imo.

If I have to have add on forks I prefer the chain on type. Just need to have a good strong bucket. Certainly worked for the backhoe lifting 1400lb bales.

Definitely not a welding job for a 120 volt MIG.

I have adjustable forks on my full size skid steer as well as my forklift. I didn’t want to put more money and effort into my mini skid forks. Honestly the fixed ones haven’t been as annoying as I thought they might be plus it’s kinda nice that they don’t rattle.
