Has anyone disced with a BX? I'm considering buying a 45" 3 pt. lift tandem disc to use for food plots, but want to make sure the BX will be able to lift it and pull it. It looks like the disc may be a little too tall for the short BX, so I would first lower the pins before doing anything else. Opinions?

I don't think the BX2200 will have enough traction to pull a disc, especially on a second pass once the ground is loose. Power would probably be adequate for a 45" disc, but I suspect you'd just spin the wheels. I'd suggest going with a rototiller. Very easy to pull and it does a real nice job of breaking up the soil.

I tried a disc once and learned after 5 minutes that I was going to ruin the tractor if I kept it up.

It just isn't big enough for that.

On the Landpride website they have a video you can download.....and it appears to be a Kubota BX2200/2230??...pulling a 48" DH10 model disc. Once you find the DH1048 under "products", look on left side margin for "Click Here For DH10 In Action" in yellow box. In the video, the 'Bota looks like it's doing pretty well with it.

Thanks guys. I've decided to give it a try. For 20% off (and roughly $1000 cheaper than a tiller) I couldn't pass up this disc. I hooked it up to the BX to unload it from the trailer and it is sized perfectly for it. I will need to lower the lift pins around 6 inches, because it now only lifts it 4 inches off the ground.

I would rather have a tiller, but two of the areas I will be planting were thick brush/small trees until recently and the disc will do better with the small tree stumps. I think the BX will do ok with this disc in low 4wd.

I am in a similar situation, can you tell me what disc you bought. Also, after you give it a try will you post your results?. Much appreciated.

I sure will. It is a Worksaver brand 45" tandem lift disc. I bought it at Rural King, which is similar to TSC. It is normally marked $389.99 but I caught it on a sale for 20% off. After I get it modifed and get to use it I'll post some pics. It may take a few weeks for me to get that all done though.

Bow, also curious to see how it works for you.

And post pics PLEASE.

At times when I'm using my box blade, if traction becomes an issue, I put about 1/2 load of dirt in the FEL. The extra weight helps with traction.

Ron's tip does work well. I also drop tire pressure to ~15psi ... kinda like a real tractor /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi all, it is time for a "project progress update".

I finished modifying my disc over the weekend by lowering the lift pins and giving it a new paint job. This first pic is the disc as I bought it. It is a Wallace Mfg. disc….45” tandem gang. In stock condition my tractor would only lift the front row of disc blades 4” off the ground. That didn’t work for loading and unloading from the trailer.

The next two pictures show my tractor/disc combo next to my truck to give you a reference and so you can see just how small it is. Small equipment doesn’t do the best job for ground work, but hey it what I got, and it beats the heck out of a garden hoe. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The last two pics are close ups of the setup, so you can see how I lowered the lift pins, and see the pretty new paint job. Now the real test is next……to see if my turf tires will pull the disc when it starts to cut or if they will sit and spin. I’ll let you know when I find out.

What is that UGLY green growth on the front of your beautiful BX??? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I would love to see how "little" this breaks up the ground. I have a tiller, but want to just rough up the top a bit before and after planting grass seed. I am also getting some cow manure delivered and need to mix this up some.

LMBO, I knew I'd get a comment or two about that. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif All I can say is that I got a great deal on them, and I have paint. They'll be bright orange before long. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'm guessing one or two passes with no weight added might give the result you're looking for. I'm expecting that I'll need to make multiple passes with weight added to the disc to get a good seed bed for my food plots. I will post pics of the "attempt" to disc.

Where in IN are you from? If not far, you can borrow the disc if you see that it would work for you.
