Different Auger Idea

I've looked at the PT auger from PT; seems fairly expensive, at least for my occasional need.

Do any of you think it would be possible to mount the appropriate hydraulic motor with square adapter in holes drilled through the bottom plate of the 4 in 1 bucket?

I'm thinking that the bucket should easily withstand the torque.

An advantage would be a very small unit as far as storage is concerned.

I don't think the holes in the bucket (other than the large one for the main shaft) would be a problem unless move sand.

Let me know your thoughts.

That's an interesting idea. The pictures below show my 180 auger head, I believe the 422 & 425 use the same head. The auger head has to or should swing like a pendulum in all directions in order to keep the auger bit aligned and plumb on uneven terrain.

That might be a problem if you mounted the auger to your bucket. Sometimes I have had problems getting into tight areas with the PT setup to auger holes and that might also be a problem if you had a auger attached to your bucket.
