That does claim to be for a forklift which is a different beast than a tractor FEL.

But....why wouldn't it work just as well on FEL forks?

Yes you would need two people...

I don't. I position, set & secure a ladder, climb in, work, climb down, remove ladder, reposition.

Keep in mind, I'm only doing things like trimming hedges or maybe gutter work, just a few feet off the ground where I can use a step ladder.

My point was that the man basket for 300.00 is almost the same as the tote basket.....

What appears to be the same design man basket as that sold on Amazon for $313.99, is being sold on E-Bay for $183.99.

It would but the forklift is superior safety wise.

You are absolutely correct, but from a practical standpoint I don't have a forklift, do have an L48, will be 80 on Monday, and would like to work from a basket rather than a ladder.

I welded D rings onto my forklift back plate and then use clip carbiners rated at 1000lbs to attach the IBC cage to the D rings. That makes it impossible for the IBC cage to come off the forks. Then I use a 2" heavy duty ratchet strap around the top of the cage to keep it tight against the fork backplate so it can't move side to side or back and forth.

Some refinements I made that might be useful to know about. A piece of plywood makes a flat comfortable floor. A chain attaches the basket to the forks so it does not wobble when you step in. Another chain is across the opening to guard against accidentally stepping off. A third chain attaches the ladder to the basket so it cannot fall away and leave you stranded. An all-weather receptacle so you can plug in several corded tools. The 4x4s top and bottom prevent scarring of house siding, and the top one can be easily swapped from side to side to get close to the work.

I want one! You are only about 3500 miles away, come build me one!

I didn't realize my hoses were 7 years overdue to burst. :confused3:

Mine is 8+ years overdue!

Dam Bobcat hoses, cannot rely on anything being on time!

A forklift ...typically...goes straight up..and straight down...

A loader...could curl quickly...while dropping down.

To each their own..

Yes, but many of us don't keep a forklift on the property. The gist of the discussion is; "how often does this type of failure occur" and "Are there ways to mitigate the risk while still using the loader to get the job done?"

I have a fall harness that can be attached to headache rack but so far wife won’t use it. My fault for not insisting and I think next time I’ll make her use it. Nice discussion here as it’s all different viewpoints.

Good points for sure.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has had a hose blow while doing "light" work. I doubt the IBC, person and tools will weight more than 400 lbs. My loader is rated at 2700 lbs so a 400 lb load sounds light to me.

If a hose does blow, I wonder how fast the load would drop. I expect it would not be instantaneous like falling off a ladder.
I have seen them blow on a forklift and the carriage will drop like the proverbial rock.
I wouldn't trust it on a loader where you could be tipped forward and dropped down.

I have to chuckle at this idea. About 30 years ago I worked for several years on a large potato farm. It is standard practise on many farms here to grow rows of cypress trees as windbreaks along fence lines and each year we would trim the cypress trees in the paddocks that had the spuds that year, in readiness to be able to get the harvesting equipment through. The standard method was to use a tractor-mounted forklift with a half-ton wooden potato box on the forks and a mug such as myself in the box with a chainsaw, being driven along the tree line. After the first few yards it got more interesting as the tractor would be driving over the felled limbs from then on. 15' up with the tractor lurching from side to side...One guy on a neighbouring farm forgot to tie the box to the forklift, got tipped out and the box broke his leg when it landed on him. Fun times...
Another job I had was building steel farm sheds, typically 100' span and 20' high at the eaves; the access equipment we used was an old David Brown tractor with a 20' extension on a FEL and a man bucket on the end. When the driver reversed and steered a little quick, it was like a carnival ride. Got the job done though.
