Dialing 911

   / Dialing 911 #21
I've called 911 from my home for real emergencies only to be told that the 911 dispatch or operator doesn't serve my area. They had me write down a 10 digit number and call that, and wouldn't transfer me. The last time this happened, I witnessed a man sitting on a woman pinned to the ground, beating her to a bloody pulp. I could hardly believe they wouldn't help. I have the proper number written down next to the phone now. So -- your mileage may vary.
That's ridiculous about the number. Also, if I saw that, I'd have been out there beating the crap out of the guy. I have zero tolerance for a man that raises his hand to a woman.

Sounds like you need to switch to Verizon. And don’t trust firefighters.......haha

You would be walking around my yard and property going do I have a signal now. And if you find one don't move, don't turn your head or it may be gone.

My employer did that due to perpetual problems with the business division of USCellular. (I had already gone back to a land line for the same reason.)
Now anytime that I need to make a call I drive around trying to find a signal, often 20 miles or more out of my way. Or I start my day late, so that I can use my landline before leaving home.

OP stated the only carrier he’d found that had service on his property was Verizon......

Phones will call 911 without a sim card, however you do need cell service.

If you have a weak signal and your using an old or phone you may want to upgrade because all phones are not created equal. I recently upgraded my 4-year-old Samsung to a Google Pixel and now I no longer have to walk outside the building to get a strong signal. In my area, some folks phones work ok and some not worth a hoot and they're pulling the signal from the same towers regardless of their carrier. Also, the newer phones are getting the new technology that also can make a difference in how the calls are processed so it pays to do a bit of research before you upgrade.
