Re: Deere ATV\'s are HERE!!

Neil,

I crafted a long rambling dissertation trying to explain my thoughts on your JD related posts.

I decided to scrap it and just ask,"does the local JD dealer consistently kick your butt? Your general comments about JD seem to suggest a hidden jealousy /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I am not bashing the product!? I am asking a legit question.

Whats your problem?

Re: Deere ATV\'s are HERE!!

My "problem" Neil is not centered around the ATV discussion.

It has to do with the last two posts I've seen from you regarding JD.

In a post a week or so ago you said "JD doesn't have much going for them". Then in the ATV discussion you state "It's a fact you pay more for green paint".

Neither of the above are facts. I'm not a die hard JD fan. I own one, but would be just as likely to purchase a NH or Kubota or Kioti next time around.

Besides--a smiley face is supposed to denote some attempt at humor. So take a deep breath and relax.

Re: Deere ATV\'s are HERE!!

To be totally honest, I think Neil has a legitimate question, is the JD ATV simply a GREEN Bombadier?

What is the FUNCTIONAL difference between the 2 units? Granted the JD might have some CONSMETIC differences, but is it essentially the same ATV. I really like the new JD ATV, but I don't much like the dealer in town. I was considering going to the next dealer over, but if I can get a Bombadier unit closer to home, I'd rather not drive to the next county to buy a JD ATV.

This is no different than asking if a DX/Farmall is the same as a New Holland Boomer. (it is, they just used red paint)

Re: Deere ATV\'s are HERE!!

If you read his first post Bob he doesn't ask a question but states it as fact.

As far as the facts on the ATV go it's like saying that the JD Gator is really just a Mule. Well yes it has the a Kawasaki motor but it's not a Mule and a Mule is not a Gator. JD first started this endeavor five years ago. This was to be a joint partnership. Bombardier was going to come out with new products and beef up their existing line. Deere had their engineers with the Bombardier engineers going over the specs for what each wanted. Deere wanted units that would be geared toward the farmer and the rancher more than the weekend warrior. The suspensions, motors, configurations etc. were put together to match what the deere people wanted in an ATV. Yes it's a bomardier in parts but the specs and configurations are different and bombardier changed their product to match deere's. They were a joint engineering effort. In return Bombardier is going to be selling some of the Gator line as well. In a sense then yes it is made by bombardier and painted green. But by no means was it something they simply painted with no thought or design put into the deal. It was built to deere specs in a joint affiliation. As far as price goes go take a look at the website. The Deere ATV's are no more expensive than the bombardiers. And if you look you will see numerous differences.

Bob, you say that's not a fact, and from what I read on this forum you may be right in some parts of the country, but it was certainly a fact with the dealers I visited. In fact, they acted like they'd be doing me a favor to even allow me to think about owning one of their machines. And they certainly did not want to waste any time answering any questions; it's a Deere; you're supposed to just take what they give you and don't ask anything was their attitude. I visited the 3 dealerships nearest where I lived and didn't spend more than 30 minutes at any of them because it was obvious that they thought I was a nuisance for even coming on their property, and the first 10 or 15 minutes at each of them was just getting someone to even speak to me. Darndest thing I ever saw.

Re: Deere ATV\'s are HERE!!

The Bombardier utility vehicle will have grey seats and be painted blue but it's a clone of the Deere mini Gator. I like the Deere ATVs not that I would buy one but they look nice. At first I was kind of skeptical of selling these at our dealership but now so many farmers look at them when they come in for parts it may boost our profit.

I paid less for my green paint than I could have paid for comparable blue or orange paint in my area. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Deere ATV\'s are HERE!!

Bird, my experience with the local Deere dealer is identical to yours. There is a Deere dealer in the next county, I was thinking of giving him a try, but I did a search and found 3 Bombadier dealers that are much closer to me.

Regarding my local JD guys, I tried to buy a tractor from them. Even had the checkbook, wasn't going to finance, just write the check and wait for delivery . . . no go. They wouldn't answer my questions and had a heck of a time getting them to talk to me. Within 10 miles of my house are Deere, AGCO, Kubota, Cub, and New Holland. You'd think with all that competition they would actually talk to customers! I've bought several pieces of equipment from the Kubota/Cub dealer, ditto the NH dealer. As it stands, I have no reason to go back to the JD dealer. When my JD lawn equipment dies (and I have several pieces) I will simply replace it with another brand. No need to be treated badly when I am spending money.

Re: Deere ATV\'s are HERE!!

Bird,

Unfortunately, your experience with the local JD dealers is not only believable, but (based on other posts) happens a fair amount of the time. As a matter of fact, if I go back to some of my first posts, I was fairly critical of my local Deere dealership. It wasn't based on price or attitude, but on what I felt was lack of product knowledge. But on the other hand, my dealer sent me a check for $1200 well after the sale was closed when some additional rebates were discovered.

I do believe that pricing is regional. For example--as a general rule I also believe Kioti is priced lower than the big 3 in many, many markets, but I've seen a one or two posts where that wasn't the case. So, if a new person purchasing their first tractor came on the forum and I said, "don't look at anything else because Kioti is the best priced tractor out there", I wouldn't be doing that person any good.

That's what I like (and respect) about your posts. You ALWAYS qualify your statements with the fact that it was your personal experience and others may have a different experience. You even did it in your response to me.

I've said it before, I wish I would have discovered TBN prior to purchasing my tractor. I don't know that I would have purchased a different model or make, but I know I would have been a more informed buyer. My next tractor will probably be in the 24HP range and thanks to input from you and others on this forum, you can bet I will be looking at all colors.
