Deere advert

Actually, the new ad catches my attention better and I feel it has more information in the same amount of space as the old one. It's much better than the New Holland ad. Even though it's great to see them advertising here, there's nothing in the New Holland ad that quickly jumps out that makes me want to click on it. The tractor is too small and it's kind of hard to even tell it's blue!

Maybe John Deere and New Holland need to get some consumers in a room and have a focus group to determine what works best! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Maybe they'll bring snacks for us too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nah, we don't get snacks... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Just a chance to sorta ogle new stuff...

What I don';t get is why the NH tractor is sitting out in the Sahara... Endurance?

Yeah, we don't have anything to do with designing the ads. I saw the New Holland print campaign in a couple of magazines. Companies often link all ads to the same idea or promotion. Run the same ad online that is run in print.

Unfortunately, what works in print doesn't always work online. Since this is NH's first online campaign with us, perhaps they will build on this in the future and improve the pitch.

Not to appear totally lost, but when and where does this JD ad appear? I have never seen it here on TBN. I do see the New Holland banner ad. I don't have dialup so I probably have not noticed the ad. I gave up dialup years ago because it was just too annoyingly slow.

Is it possible to configure TBN for dialup and broadband options. Some website have that ability. You click on an icon on the index page choosing which version of the site you wish to view. If you choose dialup, most of the heavy hitting features are removed such as Flash Movies, Shockwave content etc.

I have a 24k dialup and can easily surf TBN using Firefox by opening several tabs and blocking the ads that I think are slowing down the session.

Hakim has stated several times that the AVERAGE user on TBN has a connection speed better than dialup and the ad were created by someone other than TBN and are poorly optomized. I think it is unreasonable for dialup users (myself included) to demand that an ad that helps pays for this FREE site be removed. Several options have been suggested to help speed things up but for the most part seem to be met with resistance or just ignored.

As far as the ad itself, it got me to click on it by demonstrating what the "on ramp" mower deck was, had it been static I would have ignored it all together.

This is just my humble opinion on the matter. Please take no offense to what has been said.

I would have to say that TBN is and always will, try to supply the best access that is reasonable for the largest number of clients possible.

If I chose to farm 70 acres with my JD 2305 and then asked all the large farms in my area not to use their large, monsterous plows so that I could compete with them in the market, the concensus of all would be I should get a bigger tractor.

In conclusion, if you want to cruise the freeway with a go-cart, don't complain about how long it takes you to get to your destination.

Unfortunatly, tbn is targeted to Rural users who often have no choice in their connection. I have dsl at my home for $65/month. A lot of folks cannot justify that.

fortunately, there are increasingly more broadband options. It may take ome digging, but wireless broadband is getting into areas that have had nothing.

And I have seen several folks using Wild Blue Satelite. At $50 per month and excellant performance; it might be worth looking into. They even have free installation at this time.

Sorry... I wasn't being critical toward TBN. While I am glad New Holland finally sees the value of advertising here, I was disappointed their first attempt does nothing to jump out to the average consumer. I was hoping they see my post and revise their advertisement to make something that will jump out and catch everyone's attention.

On the other hand, the new John Deere ad uses much less resources than their previous attempt, but I feel it is MUCH more effective at getting my attention than either their last ad or the current NH ad. It's good to see they are learning what works and what doesn't.

I apologize for my insensitive post previously. I didn't realize some people have no choice as to their connections to the NET. I thought that it was just a personal choice they made and that they chose dialup because they didn't like the price for broadband. Here satellite is pretty much available everywhere. If not there is cable and Microwave. Again, I apologize to all for my last post.

No offense taken here...

I just happened to check out WildBlue, and noticed that while installation is free; there is a $300 equipment charge. But I do know several users that have it and are quite pleased...

Unfortunate that the US of A is embroiled in both politics and lacking technical willpower to move broadband to the masses. I am surrounded by the technology, yet I cannot get DSL, cable or fibre. Rediculous it is.

I'd have to pay almost 2000$ to get fiber pulled to my place, and our cable company was getting ready to offer broadband... but were bought out by a local rinkydink service, and now just barely even offer -tv- let alone anything else... So I'm stuck with dialup fro the time being..

It isn't running anymore. It was in the JD ad which appears in the top of your screen. Before, the bare tractor would move across the screen; pop a "wheelie" /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif to hook up to the mower; then continue on to hook in with the loader. It took about 10-12 seconds to load every time I changed forums. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Now it's simply a stationary pic in the banner. I guess someone realised they used the loader so much that it's unnecessary to take it off at the end of every project. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
