Holy cow, the R stands for Rich. I loaded one up with most everything, and it was pushing $160,000

My friend is looking for a new hay machine. He has a 3155 MFWD and he wants another similar machine. He's shopping around.

Ortimber nailed it.

There are reasons people pay these prices. I don't want to start that argument.

I would like to hear from those who have compared them and bought one over the other and why?

My buddy is looking at the M model, although the R model has a 31mph road gear optional transmission that has him a bit envious. He custom bales hay and getting to and from the locations is time consuming. He said he could drive to town at 31 mph. :)

I don't know about the smaller JD tractors but in the 75HP PTO range the M & R series are really big bucks. In 2009 I looked at JD and decided that the Kubota M6040 was big enough and cost enough.

I'm sure the selling price is not even the real issue. If you could amortise that over ten for fifteen years of troublefee service, less maintenance costs, it might still work. SADLY, that will probably not be the case. And you will be at the mercy of JD.

I bought a 5100M in 2017. It has a nice combination of features, it cost me around $73K. A comparable R was almost $20K more. Biggest difference was in the the transmission. The R was fully electronic and the loader valve and various other controls were integrated into the seat so it all swiveled together as you moved around. Very nice, but I really couldn’t see that as being something I needed.

He's looking at the 6120M which is right at 100PTO hp.

Great summation. I purchased a new 5100m in 2018 after coming to the same conclusion. Love the 32x16 transmission and have encountered zero issues with this model through 125 hours so far.

Well, my buddy has a line on a 700 hour 6110 2017 model M. He has been testing many different colors.

Yesterday he went and test drove a brand new 6130M MFWD and FEL, and told me that was the finest tractor he's ever driven. He has a nice 3155 MFWD for comparison purposes. His step brother traded from another color to green about 2 years ago and keeps telling him he should buy green.

He ended up buying the 6110 MFWD. He had to have them adjust the clutch, as it was way too grabby. He said they hooked up the computer and bingo....fixed.

A few other nit picky things.

Also got himself a used 569 baler with netwrap. says it really saves time when baling all day.

He says the AC works so good, he can cut it back a notch, even without tinted windows.

He did say it does not turn as sharp as his 3155 MFWD.

I would think the 6110M should turn at least as tight as the 3155. The wheelbase is a little shorter. He may need to adjust the steering stops, unless the wheels are set really narrow.

Contractors Rule of Thumb $10,000 per hp, does not matter which of the major colours.

Bought a 5115M in October last year. Was between that and another 5R tractor. The deciding factor for me was the computerized transmission in the R and it was about $30,000.00 more. The transmission on the 5Rs is still kind of jerky and in addition to the money this clenched it for me.

My dream machine is the 6250R. Just ready to see one over here in the US. They are really popular in Europe.

That in New Zealand ? 1 hp = $10,000, 10 hp = $100,000. , 100 hp = $1,000,000 ?? or are other costs factored in here?

Oops, a slip of the key. Should be $1,000/hp

Well - I have a Fendt - - baseball cap. Visited their web site - saw the prices. They still sent me a free ball cap. And we all think JD Green is expensive!!!

Lots of great features only available on the 6R, the bigger newer cab, TLS, the Deere IVT, the command centre etc etc. I suppose you pays your money and you makes your choice. Once you load up a 6M on the JD website you're not that far off a 6R.
