Deckover VS. Carhauler

/ Deckover VS. Carhauler #21
My car hauler handles my LS P7010 easily and it fits between the fenders. I don't ever plan to haul anything any larger so the car hauler works fine for me. It loads round bales easily also as the fenders are not high enough to interfere with the hay spear. I had a gooseneck camper and the hassle of having the hitch take up the whole bed (practically) was a PIA. I prefer a bumper pull so when you unhook, you don't have anything clogging up your bed. I also don't want to start cutting up my bed to put one of the flip up balls that pull some of the gooseneck trailers.

I'm with you. Been there done that with the GN.

"clogging up your bed" sounds more like a 5th wheel (typical for big campers) than a gooseneck (very rare for campers but common for horse campers). Anyway I just wanted to point out that gooseneck hitches don't clog up beds, at worse they are a 2-5/16" ball in the middle of the bed and I have one of the "turnover balls" that easily flips over and takes up nothing of the bed. It only takes a 3" hole and doesn't detract from the truck.

Gooseneck trailers pull heavy loads a lot better than bumper hitches.

Back half of the bed is unusable unless it is something small to miss the swing of the hitch. My truck is still set up to tow anything and have the rail system so when the hitch is out it is completely gone. With that being said I have not hooked to a gooseneck in almost 2 years. It is nice to be able to throw the bucket in the truck and load the tractor with the snowpusher and blower on the trailer. If I am going somewhere in the summer I can haul the tractor with all the implements and throw the dirtbikes in the back of the truck. It is more user friendly than the gooseneck. Heavy loads? yea the gooseneck gets used. Lately I just hire it done. For a few $$ more it is not worth my time or the grief from the DOT. CJ

I have used car hauler type trailers enought to like my deckover. Its a 16+4 bumper pull that handles it's 10k lb rating easily. I've hauled an 80 hp Belarus 4x4 with loader with no isssues, my FIL's MF165 with 9' disk mower, and much more. Trucks, vans, cars, junk, round and squre baled hay, cement blocks... suits me very well.

At times I would like it to be a gooseneck... my tow truck is a short bed with cross-bed tool box in the front, so bed space is nearly useless already, and getting the weight on the axle instead of the bumper appeals to me.
