I'm thinking, I'm thinking!
Tractor
LS MT125 TLBM
Of course all dealers are different, but in general terms, do they have much to play with?

Are there better times of year? Promotions? End of year model changes, etc.?

January I would say is the best time, sales are pretty slow and they need to move the leftovers. Yes they have money to play with, the amount they have to play with depends on many things..

This is a general inquiry asking about what Dealers do. That should be universal, nationwide. You could answer based on your own area though if that's all you're familiar with.

It depends on the dealer. If there is only one dealer within 500 miles, they just aren’t going to be very motivated.
I now have 5 LS dealers within 200 miles. The one I bought from beat the best price all of the others.
One thing about LS is that all their machines don’t have many options or upgrades available. Each series is built to a standard, and they pretty much all come with the same options.
The cabbed tractors pretty much have every option installed, so comparing apples to apples from dealer to dealer is easy.
With Deere and Kubota, there are so many options available that you have to specify all the exact same options when comparing between dealers, or they will quote a base model with only the basics to keep the quote low.

A few years back I bought a Kubota MX4700 new. I solicited bids from several sales managers. One came in very low (about $3600 below the others). I went and talked to the sales manager in person. His dealership was a tiny old place with NO inventory. No delivery--I have to haul it myself. He would order it for me from the distributor set up how ever I like--ready in ten days. I wanted taller, skinner tires (13.6x28) for cultivating row crops, so a special order worked for me. He told me that other dealers had expensive big new places out by the highway, lots of inventory, etc. which cuts their margins. So, to answer your questions, dealers have wiggle room, but it might depend on how they run their business.

I went out of my region to purchase mine because pricing was better. If you live in the NorthWest, then nothing many people here offer in advice will come into play for you. so once again I will state, Region makes a difference.

New England prices in general seem higher than other regions, not sure why.

LS is a non-starter, there was one dealer 55 miles away. So another post suggesting if you are not willing to share your location you are wasting your time.

Nearest grocery store is 20 miles. Gas station is 15 miles. Lowes and Home Depot are 30 miles. ALL tractor dealers are at least 30-40 miles with some in the 80 mile range.

55 would not put any dealer as a 'non-starter'.

I'm about 50 miles in three different directions from 3 Kubota dealers. Got my best deal for my RTV from one and my L2501 from another. I was really thinking I would of got the best deal for the tractor from the guy I bought the RTV from. So I'm sure they have wiggle room. Plus dealer discounts and rebates can be a huge help.

Where I live I have a green, orange and red all within a 30 mile radius of me. The green said didn't have time to talk or show he said you can look but no test drive. Orange was a little more friendlier he took time to point out where the tractor I was looking for was at and then walked off. The red being a smaller but they have 5 dealerships but still big enough to offer good deals and have that small town attitude of your now my friend let's try to make a deal to your specifications of options and financing. So he went got a key test drove one and went in and got the financing no money down and he delivered it 2 days later with full tank of fuel. I haven't had any major problems but a couple of questions I called salesman he answered and he found out the answer and got it taken care of. Any problems I also call the service manager he has no problem of taking time to care of customers needs. That's the way a dealer ship work I very satisfied with them and recommend them to any one looking for a tractor.

The dealer told me the MSRP for a XU6168CPS was around $44,000, I paid $34,500+tax for mine because he had just got an additional $1,000 rebate from LS if not I would have paid $35,500. I would say if a dealer is at or very close to MSRP then he definitely has wiggle room especially on larger tractors, maybe not so much on SCUT or CUT.

I didnt even try to get a lower price on the mt125, it was 5k less than the others. I guess i could have but i called around to a few dealers and one state over and they were 2k more than the ls dealer, or i should say distributor/dealer near me. They had at least 100 of these units in the back on pallets. Im having my mt125 delivered for 15,850 + my state tax this tues! They were loading one on a trailer heading for nevada while i was there so the prices are good. Im not in a production mode so if sometning happens i can call and have it shipped. They salesman did say they are having a 200 to 300 bump coming up.

Enjoy
