Cylinder extension

I have a cylinder that is 36" from center of hole to center of hole while closed... I am trying to figure out what will be the length when extended fully. Can I put air in the cylinder to extend it? This is all new to me and I am trying to make a log splitter. Any formulas.... The label on the cylinder was rubbed off but I know it is a Chief.

Don't use air!!!!!!!! If you can't pull it open by hand you could use your tractor. Go slow.

I have used air many times, but you must be prepared for it to open quickly and have the body of the cylinder secured.

May I ask what's the reason for not utilizing air to extend the cylinder? There are air operated cylinders being used.

A lot of hyd cylinders are marked with their diameter & stroke.

I have used air also alot of times, but I didn't like telling someone to use it and getting hurt.

put in vise , put a rod thru the eye, pull and twist at the same time .....

low pressure air works well , but can extend the rod quickly ...
