Cummins B6.7 Octane: Gasoline engine

Cummins shows a 6.7 turbo gasoline engine on their website for light trucks, 240 to 300hp with similar torque than equivalent diesel ratings. They call it the B6.7 Octane.

It is rumored to replace the 6.4 V8 in 2500 and 3500 Ram trucks.

it still doesnt push out the same hp as a Diesel, but i assume they are a bit hesitant because of the greater heat rejection of less efficient gasoline combustion in the same engine.

Impressive engine, the torque curves show nearly the same torque but at slightly higher RPM'S.
The main down-side, engine weight.

I think that economy minded company owners and buyers will buy them in droves for smaller delivery trucks. Great competition for Ford V-8/V-10 gas motors. Has the Cummins name.

Call it crazy, but I wonder if that could signal the comeback of the
GAS tractor engine????

Being built on the industrial Cummins block, i dont think these will be the economy choice... Too many design choices were made during its development to make it last 10.000hrs in continous duty cycle, that drive up the cost price.

I dont think so. Cummins just sees an opportunity to offer gas truck engines now the days of the V8 passenger cars seem to be numbered: when V8 production is dwindling down at Chrysler because they dont put them in cars anymore, it makes sense to discontinue them entirely and replace them by the Cummins gas engine.
