Fall in East Texas at Lake Marabou
The water level is still down from two summers ago when it was 100 degrees or more for three months. That was devastating, but then we didn't get very much for rain the following year. In the past couple of months, we've received a few good rains and the water level is coming back up and it's starting to look nice again. I'm still four feet low, so maybe winter will be good to me?

My how the time flies. Just seemed like yesterday you were starting out. I think your vegetation is making a great comeback. It sure takes a long time, and about a thousand feet of my dike is still bare and this is five years old. I know the spoils came from salt water, but five years and it is barely beginning...great pictures, and I wonder how Oscar is doing? Tony

Oscar is doing great. He's almost 500 pounds and content to relax all day and night.
I've enjoyed seeing what grows around the pond, but I also struggle with some of the undesirable plants. Nutsedge was really bad at first, but now I've got it under control with chemicals. I also have Johnson Grass coming up and I have to spray it or it spreads and takes over. Two of my really nice oaks fell over a couple months ago. No reason, they where close to the dam, but not at the edge of it like some of the trees I expected to die are. Of those, I've lost a couple, but most are doing fine. What's really amazing is seeing the water plants that show up because none where there before I started building the pond. Obviously the birds bring them in there when they visit. It makes me wonder what will be next?
