I was working on a few projects when my old Lincoln G8000 quit. When I try to strike an arc I get very weak sparks. Tried switching amp setting and polarity. It senses 120 volts when I plug in a trouble light by revving up the engine but won't light it up. I pulled off the cover nothing appears to be smoked. Any ideas? Think it's worth fixing?:(

I'm not familiar with that unit.. but look for problem areas.. like disconnected field or bias resistor wires.

I had an old miller D?? series welder.. diesel powered.. and there was a wire on a spade plug that would come off and no power to welder or plugs till it was fixed.

Thanx for the replies...well one anyway.:D

I checked the connections, cleaned the slip rings, no change. I posted the problem on a couple of welding boards and got a few more suggestions that I'll check tomorrow. I suspect something on the circuit board smoked. I asked for help on Lincoln's support site they said I should have a reply within two business days....we'll see. This has put a real crimp in my project schedule.

Found a bad connection on the field bridge rectifier. Replaced one connector, cleaned and put dielectric grease on all the connections...It works!

Thanx for all the replies.

Glad you got it fixed, and posted the solution. That might help someone else in the future if they have a similar problem.

Sorry I didn't take any pics when I had it opened up. I don't know if they'd be useful anyway unless somebody else has the same welder. I would suggest that if anyone else has the same problem they check and re-seat all connections in the welder.
