I recently bought a Gravely 16G 50" cut with three basket bagger. I have not tried the bagging system out, and I have never owned one. It has new blades now but they look like regular blades, not "high lift".
Will "gator" type mulching blades do better on this machine or do I need to get "high lift" or just use what I have:confused:

I would think that a dealer would be sure to sell the machine with the right blades to have the grass collection work at it's best. Mulcher blades are meant to cut the grass multiple times not to enhance a collection system.

If the blades you have now are completely flat, you might need the blades that have the scoop or wing on the back side.
They help throw the grass.

They especially help throw wet and heavy grass through the tube and into the furthest basket.

Whether you 'need' them or not kinda depends on how long and dry your grass is and the wind tunnel design of your deck.

Try the flat blades.
If the tube to the bags/baskets keeps blocking up , then the winged blades should help with that.

I've had mulching blades on other mowers ( push and riders) that worked fine when switching to bags/baskets.
(as long as I didn't cut at dawn, dusk or in the rain)

Usually a mower with baskets comes with blades with a lift wing on the back side.
They can help get more distance on side discharge, too .
