My nephew got his post doc in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. I don’t know if he’s´ actually working on this virus but he does know a little bit about lungs and viruses. I asked my sister what his opinion is of the virus. This is what she said;

In a nutshell, he thinks we should be more concerned about the Flu. He said this corona virus is like the Sars virus of 2002, it is the same kind of virus that causes the common cold.

If you peruse back through Coronavirus threads one, two, and three you will note that several TBN members have been saying the same thing.

Dropped my wife off at a fabric store and parked the car. Went in after her and there were three girl scouts and a mom selling cookies. I looked at them as I passed by, but they said nothing and made no eye contact. So I kept going. If they'd have asked me, I'd have bought a couple boxes.

Found my wife and mentioned the girl scouts and told her the story. She said they asked her if she wanted to buy some. She said she'd get them on the way out.

Puzzled, I said I wondered why they didn't ask me? She said "Because you're scary looking." I said WHAT?

She said "You're big and scary looking. You look intimidating and you scare women and children."

I said babies smile at me. She said they don't know any better. :confused3:

I've apparently reached 'a certain age'. (Born before the Normandy invasion, peers will recognize that event). I was looking at something in Goodwill and a late-20's cutie walked up and asked me what she had found. I told her the slender plank with a clamp is for scaling fish. She thanked me and started up a long conversation including volunteering her name. Told me people my age know so much, they're interesting to learn from. Wow that was new. Offered her hand for a handshake when we parted. This is new. I had wondered if she would lecture me about noticing her cute a**.

And back around age 55 I was entering a store where there are Russian immigrants and a gorgeous late-20's made a point of holding the door for me when I was trying to hold it for her. We talked a little, she said where she came from there is utmost respect for older men because they are rare after so many gave their lives in WWII. Heck I'm not that old!

Anyhow lets get back on topic.

We talked a little, she said where she came from there is utmost respect for older men because they are rare after so many gave their lives in WWII. Heck I'm not that old!

well over 10,000 have died from flu in the US alone this season, with 10's of millions of cases. 24 people were killed (that we know of) in the Nashville tornadoes. How many people were killed today in traffic accidents?

Yeah, I was just thinking about all those numbers. Odd thing about human nature. Common disaster/death is dismissed. Unusual death is tightly debated.

Abstract stating that SARS-COV-2 has evolved into two versions, L & S with different characteristics.

ABSTRACT
The SARS-CoV-2 epidemic started in late December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since impacted a large portion of China and raised major global concern. Herein, we investigated the extent of molecular divergence between SARS-CoV-2 and other related coronaviruses. Although we found only 4% variability in genomic nucleotides between SARS-CoV-2 and a bat SARS-related coronavirus (SARSr-CoV; RaTG13), the difference at neutral sites was 17%, suggesting the divergence between the two viruses is much larger than previously estimated. Our results suggest that the development of new variations in functional sites in the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike seen in SARS-CoV-2 and viruses from pangolin SARSr-CoVs are likely caused by mutations and natural selection besides recombination. Population genetic analyses of 103 SARS-CoV-2 genomes indicated that these viruses evolved into two major types (designated L and S), that are well defined by two different SNPs that show nearly complete linkage across the viral strains sequenced to date. Although the L type (∼70%) is more prevalent than the S type (∼30%), the S type was found to be the ancestral version. Whereas the L type was more prevalent in the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan, the frequency of the L type decreased after early January 2020. Human intervention may have placed more severe selective pressure on the L type, which might be more aggressive and spread more quickly. On the other hand, the S type, which is evolutionarily older and less aggressive, might have increased in relative frequency due to relatively weaker selective pressure. These findings strongly support an urgent need for further immediate, comprehensive studies that combine genomic data, epidemiological data, and chart records of the clinical symptoms of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

I am going to answer one of my own questions about how many died today from traffic accidents:

In the United States, more than 37,000 people die in traffic accidents each year. This is only a small portion of the 1.3 million people who die annually in road crashes every year globally.

37000/365= 101 per day (in the US). Wow!... lots better chance of getting taken out going to the grocery store than dying from Covid 19. Lots better. You can be young and healthy and die in a traffic accident, and so far everyone that has died over here has been kinda of "old" and unhealthy. Do you know that the majority of males in China smoke cigarettes? Yes, well over 50 percent. Yeah, they really like those things. No way that would compromise anyon's immunity to a disease that attacks your lungs... no... um. um...

If you are a nursing home patient in Kirkland Washington, I would think your chances of dying of Covid-19 might be elevated. Giving up smoking would be advisable too...

Was at the hospital today for a port flush and a meeting with my onacologist to review recent tests. Business as usual, no unusual precautions being taken other than an abundance of alcohol based hand cleaner everywhere. No one had masks on except my infusion nurses of course. In fact, have not seen anyone with a mask on at all. I know I'm not sporting one, don't plan on it either.

I survived stage 4 cancer last year, I think I can deal with the Wuhan Flu if it becomes necessary.

Yep, it is the "shiny new thing". We should all rush out and buy both toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and ammo... You can always use more ammo. OH. and bacon... Bacon is good on just about everything.

I am reading that there is a large reduction of typical flu reports and it's being attributed to more people heeding the general prevention practices and more sick people staying home...

I would like to see retail businesses, banks, post offices etc... (especially grocery stores and pharmacies etc.) set up daily screening for all their employees (temperature monitoring etc.)...

Course, when you do that there will be those that figure out a way to have an elevated temperature when they report for work and be sent home with pay!!!! Cha-Ching!!!!
