Oh God, please not a Chevy... At least make it a Porsche or Lamborghini or maybe a 1968 Mustang Shelby 500. Yeah, that's the ticket!!!

A '78 Chevette, nonetheless.

I kind of hope you are kidding here. And who is they? The person working the cash register? You think everyone should fill out a survey if they buy cold medicine? Then what?

Not at all...but if someone is having the typical "mild" symptoms and is seeking OTC medication...they should be advised to get tested...especially if a young healthy person may only have mild symptoms that they could pass it onto someone that has underlying health issues and it could become much more serious or even fatal...

IMO anyone showing any symptoms and are out in public should be questioned...

I have chronic dry cough from allergies and resulting post nasal drip. I recently came down with a cold and because of my allergies I always seem to have an acute upper respiratory issue along with it. I also came back from Singapore early February. It did cross my mind several times that I should get tested.

I have numerous times in. my life, gone to the doctor after a week or two with this condition. Sometimes they put me on anti-biotics but I don't want to keep destroying my immune system each time unless it gets bad... I believe you have to pick your battles. Two plus weeks now and just getting over the cold. Never a fever and I had a runny nose. I understand the coronavirus is a dry cough, not a lot mucus and runny noses (I hope). Since I work out of the house normally unless I am traveling, I sort of self quarantined myself. I also didn't go around any old folks homes!

With the 'common' flu affecting and consequently wiping out far more people than the coronavirus and other sensationalized viruses, I am not sure how 'questioning' people regarding this particular strain is going to be more effective than other possible actions to fight common flus. What we need is a vaccination to be created just like we always do and as quick and safely as possible.

All you have to do is read the most basic news reports of the COVID-19 virus...the symptoms are so mild in so many cases that untold numbers were never tested etc...in some cases they barely know they have it or think it's just a cold etc...That is why they should be asked a few basic questions...if they can alert one case/person they can eliminate a lot of possible others...why not at least inquire?? Is it asking too much?
They are seeing a lot less cases of typical flu because of the awareness and more are doing what is advised for personal prevention...

Me thinks that most everyone is quite aware of the coronavirus due to the local and national news sensationalizing it. As such, I am not sure some clerk at a grocery store asking someone at the cash register if they think they may have the virus or who they have been in contact with... is going to yield much of anything positive IMHO. If you can devise a systematic approach that makes sense, I am all ears! What specific questions do you propose?

Unless you are suggesting that everyone gets tested that buys some cold medication, and we know that ain't going to happen soon with the resources at hand, I still fail to see how it will work?

It would not have to be near so dramatic...LoL...something along the lines of handing them a card/flier etc. with some questions AND if they answer yes to say two out of three there is a toll free number to call about free testing...

Individual states seem to be proactive since given the power...

Look at it this way. The more known and documented cases that prove to be minor will help bring down the stats and de-sensationalize this whole mess.

I just saw some rather disturbing news. Business Insider ran a couple articles on the virus, today. The word is - Medicaid & Medicare will cover the cost of testing. There is concern on how much of the treatment costs will be covered by these two plans.

Perhaps that is why there were people who were "cleared" and then "reinfected" after having gotten over it, they first had the L variant and now have the S variant or visa versa?

Aaron Z

I heard speculation that two different versions could explain some of the confusion over the mortality rate and reinfection reports. Hopefully the coming weeks will provide clarity with additional testing. Here is an article on the pathogenicity of the 1918 flu epidemic that discusses the mutation of the virus.

Italy to close all schools and universities

My daughter is at the University of Washington. She thinks they are getting ready to close. It will be interesting to see how much education can be done on the internet. My wifes company is trying to figure out if their infrastructure will work if everyone has to work from home.

Well the wife wanted onion rings so we went to Arby's. I got a big old roast beef dripping in Cheese....

Love those. We gotta drive 80 miles to get Arby's. Gotta drive 50 miles to get Wendy's.

A New Hampshire man who this week tested positive as the first case of coronavirus in the state is bringing self-quarantine to the forefront after he ignored medical advice to stay home.

Instead of avoiding contact with others – as he was advised to do after he visited the doctor Friday, with a fever and respiratory problems – that same night the man went to a mixer for medical workers and students near Dartmouth’s campus, The New York Times reported.

On Monday, the man, who works at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., tested positive for the virus and this week a second patient who had “close contact” with him tested positive as well and is in self-quarantine.

The man is now under official order from New Hampshire’s health commissioner to stay home.

The incident that txdon describes is just one reason a lot of us are going to get to "play" in this game.
