Coolant Heaters

Looking to install a coolant heater in my 4310, looked through the service manual and the owners manual to see where they mount to the engine, and the manuals don't show anything on them.
I'm wondering if the directions that come with the heater is easy to follow?
Read on another forum about installing one, but no pictures, so I'm still not sure where the heater mounts.

On my 4210 the coolant heater is mounted in a frost plug hole on the left side of the block. A little tough to access but works great once installed.

So it's just a press fit into the frost plug hole and has a expanding wing in the back?
I thought they had a tapped hole to screw into.

It does go on the left side. Replaces a 1" [I think] pipe plug. A little hard to access but should not take more than an hour start to finish. I did mine no problem

I installed a JC Whitney heater into a heater hose on our 220D. Worked fine to start it on a -22 F morning.

On the 240D, it came with the offer for the dealer to install a frost plug heater. That heater was still there and working and not leaking 25 years later when we recently sold it. It would heat the engine within 20-30 minutes' time.
