<font color=blue>Who is John Galt?</font color=blue>

Some stuff I found with a quick Google search...I just received an email with a $25 amazon.com gift certificate for filling in a survey, so I just bought Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead and Virtue of Selfishness for $25.97, net to me, 97 cents. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

In her novel Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand rhetorically asks, "Who is John Galt?" The question cannot be answered and is a symbol of objectivism. Among other things, it implies extreme individualism and distrust of government.

When we were coming up w/ a name for our place we almost went with Galt's Gulch. Seemed a little forced since our place is flat as a pancake. Shame that.

What's so different about that? I've been called curly for many decades.

Rancar: Gee . . . I'm sorry. Like I said, you don't want to know. I apologize for pointing out a few historical facts. If you read my post carefully, you will find I ended up suggesting to Trey that he enjoy himself and not worry about it. I'm sure Trey can decide for himself what he wants to do. Stockpiling a few things is no big deal-there are books/lists around that give shelf lives for various items, etc.. The bleach, as mentioned in another post, is for purifying water. I'm not an expert in anything, never claimed to be. I've always found "experts" rather limited in scope (breadth) of knowledge, havn't you? I recall a lunch I had about 6 months ago with a nuclear physicist to discuss an issue in quantum mechanics as it related to causality (for a book I am working on). Once he got beyond his area of expertise, and got a few drinks in him, he turned out to be a flaming mystic! Anyway, Rancar, I really am sorry if I depressed you. Like I said in my post, I was surprised to see an issue like this brought up on TBN. Don't worry about it. Enjoy your tractor-I should take delivery on my new one within a week, I'm certainly looking forward to it. If you listen to me, you will not, as you suggested, jump into your grave, but, you will maximize your yield of pleasure while minimizing the cost in pain until your time is up. I don't think that's such bad advice, do you? Take care. Paul E. Anna

Ranchman: Have heard of Road Warrior. Will give it look see. Thanks for the ref. JEH

Franz: Re your post, please be careful about saying stuff like that even in jest. JEH

Re: Rand's books. As others have said, good stuff. I mentioned Atlas Shrugged only because the theme of the book , to wit: the mind on strike, relates to the deterioration of the economic system which Trey might find of interest. The thrust of her work involves man's right to exist for his own sake. JEH

Thanks Paul for the clarifications...this clears things up a bit. Sorry I came across a bit harsh but your post left me with alot of questions and confusion. If I read more carefully between the lines I would have gotten the gist of what you're saying. No big deal....have a great evening.

Alas, Babylon. I've got a cousin who does war game work for the army in Korea. Maybe I should arrange to have him give me an early warning.

"Alas, Babylon"

A book I've read several times and enjoyed each time.

There was another one, set in France, in a vineyard I think. I guess it helps to have an orange grove or vineyard or something when civilization decides to call it a day. I hope it waits until warm weather. All I could grow now would be chillblains. Not very nourishing.
