I am finding grey tractor 2o-25 hp 4wd w/ loader sells about 6-7K. I think I owe myself a serious consideration of this setup.

Dealers are advertising them as refurbished. What kind of quality can I expect from these refurbs? I suppose certain dealers are known for quality refurb. Who are they? Can you help? Thank.

rlee6,

It really depends on what a dealer considers refurbished. Other than just filters, belts, hoses, seat, tires and paint....

I would consider key wear points like brakes, wheel bearings, axle and PTO seals, disassembly of the FWD components, all hydraulics, bushing, clutch disk, PP and TO bearing replaced. I would also expect the dealer to check all electrical, battery and starter and to back off fuel pressure from each injector to insure they supply fuel accurately.

Anything that shows significant signs of wear during the above inspection to be replaced. Lastly tires, paint, fit and finish.

All of the above will add years of trouble free operation and only requires routine maintenance. The problem is there are honest people (dealers) that do all this, and there are dealers that just say they do.

OR:

Buy a solid, low hour tractor from a reputable, experienced dealer that has been in business for a long time. They only need to know your requirements, your budget and your location.

Good luck on your tractor hunt.

Vietnam remans are not like a remanufactured Dewalt drill, they are salvaged junk assembled in a third world country on the backs of a $1 a week labor.

rlee6,

Well....there's two for starters. If it were me, I would pick up the phone and call Wayne (LMTC) or Buck (EFC) and have a serious chat about your needs.

Regards, Mark

Thank you LMTC and EFC. You are in Ohio and Washington, and I am in Florida. Wouldn't shipping be significant, more than $1000 for a $8000 purchase?

It's really not proper for us to do business on the forum...at least not for us as we don't pay for advertising. LMTC@tds.net

Like Wayne said we don’t pay for advertising. I don’t because I am not here to sell anything, chatting here is my hobby.

My policy at EFC is we do not ship outside of our service area for any reason, which is the Pacific Northwest. But if you ever want to chat about tractors please feel free to call.

May I ask you a question on older tractors? Engineers build automobiles so economically that when the engine is worn out around 200k miles, transmission and suspension go out about the same time. I have a 170K mile Chevy. The engine is doing funny things. So are the transmission and the suspension.

What about tractors? When do tractor owners give up on repairing?

If I may rephrase the question from the perspective of used tractor buyer, how can I tell if a tractor is given up of repairing by the owner?

Thanks.

PS: By the way, my question is not about trey tractors. I have not owned a tractor before.
