ALLIS CHALMERS MODEL B,KUBOTA 2410,1970 JACOBSON 1200 SUPER CHEIF
I own five acres that we are getting ready to build a home on. It has a slight roll to it, no big hills. 1 acre is in fruit and vegtables. 300 foot gravel driveway to maintain and the rest is grass. Trying to decide between the 7500 or 2410 kubota. I plan to use a RFM, can't decide between woods or king cutter. Looking for advice on which tractor and mower. Also want to know what size and brand of tiller to get. Also need to know if tires should be loaded.

jbrewer:

You didn't mention whether you would be using a Front End Loader (FEL), but if you are, I would definitely recommend filling the rear tires for ballast or planning to have the RFM hooked up whenever you use the FEL. If you weren't considering the FEL, you should. It is amazing the number of back-straining jobs the FEL can help with. I sometimes call mine the "diesel wheelbarrow." Like moving and spreading gravel on that driveway or moving mulch, fertilizer bags, large baskets of fruit or vegetables, cleaning up and landscaping around your new home, etc.

Filling the rear tires will also improve your traction for other jobs. Keeping the RFM or other heavy 3-point attachment on whenever you want to use the FEL will reduce your maneuverability in tight spots, but it will help with the ballast situation. A box blade and/or landscape rake would also be handy when maintaining the driveway or working on landscaping. They can always be added later when you have a job that gives you an excuse to buy a new toy /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

For 5 acres, probably either the 7500 or 2410 will do what you need. The 2410 will handle larger implements and probably save you time on the larger jobs. The 7500 will just take a little longer to do the same job.

Can't help with the tiller, as I don't have or use one. Good luck with your property. You will find that having the tractor will make a lot of jobs fun that you might avoid if you have to tackle them with a shovel and wheelbarrow.

You may want to view this thread for some prior discussion on this exact same topic. (hope the link works, my 1st attempt to link to a post)

I wanted the B2410 but couldn't justify the extra $$ for my use. The 2410 will handle bigger 3pt implements, like a 6' RFM and 54" tiller, but again, at higher implement cost.
As for a RFM, do a search in the Attachments forum. The Woods is built much better than the KK. You may also want to look into the First Choice brand. I have their 60" RFM and it is of great quality for a reasonable price. Others have reported favorably of the their tillers and box blades.
Good luck in your decision. Both tractors are great machines. Be sure to check into the rebates as well.

Good luck on your choice...... I remember a thread where one fellow said a Howard Tiller was his choice. He said it even came in Orange...... Tom

I went with the 7500 for a couple of reasons:
1. Price - around 2k less than 2410.
2. I did'nt need the implements to be just a "little bigger" for alot bigger price.
3. I tested both and really couldn't tell much difference at all.
The only real advantage the 2410 has - position control. I don't really have a strong need for that either, but it would have been nice.

Ive had my 2410 for about 3 weeks now. It seems to have plenty of power for what I need to do.

Ive mowed with it, used a 5 foot box blade and dug a number of post holes with a rented digger (9" bit). It will bog down in heavy grass, but wont under normal conditions. The grass that bogged it down was over 3 feet tall /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif One thing I do like the position control for was to pull some weight off the mower wheels when going over soft ground.

It has a wider stance than the B7500, this is very important when mowing/working on hills. It also has about an inch more ground clearence and several hundred pounds more lift capacity on the 3ph.

With the rebates the price difference is smaller as well. There is only a $200 rebate on the 7500, the rebate on the 2410 is $700. All in all, Im glad I bought the 2410 over the 7500.

I also have a B2410 with the FEL, Befco RFM and BB. One advice is that if you are going to move a lot of dirt, get the tires filled. But if you are going to do general maintainance work, the tractor is plenty heavy and when you need the ballast, just hook up a 3PH implement.

I like the position control and if you plan on doing any leveling/ grading it is a nice feature to have. You can also get a Backhoe which would sit solid on a B2410. I have not seen any 7500 with one.

Good luck.
