If this is in the wrong catagory, the moderator can relocate this.
I have a Kubota B7610 (2004) with hst. It is time to replace hydraulic oil and filters. I found the filter number for the hst (Left side when sitting on tractor). I read it from the existing filter on the tractor (White filter with blue writing). The other filter has no writing on it and is black in color. By process of elimination I assume since there are 2 filters listed (ie. Messick's, Coleman), the hst filter number is hh660-36060. Therefore the other filter listed hh670-37710 must be the other hydraulic filter (Next to the strainer screen). My manual and service manual barely give enough info to which filter is which let alone filter numbers.

My questions are:

1. Is this the correct filter numbers?
2. Can 2 hst filters be used instead of having to deal with 2 different filters? (The hst filter costs less)
3. Is Super UDT2 ok to use? (Been using Super UDT since new tractor purchase)
4. Is it ok to mix the UDT and UDT2? (Residual or topping off)

ps. I realize that these are newbe questions and I should remember since I did the last change. I think I bought from the dealer last time so I didn't need to know the filter numbers. Money is tight now and I'm trying to save a buck by purchasing elsewhere.
Any info would be much appreciated by this old man.

If one is white with p/n on it and other one is black, tells me the black one is original and never changed. The black underneath is the hydraulic retrun filter. These filters have differnent flow, pressure, & micron ratings. Don't use 1 in place of the other.

As far as oil is concerned, there constant debate going on here in TBN, in 1 thread or another about hydraulic oil. There are UDT "equivalants" out there but some of the Kubota guys say they notice incease in Hydrostatic pump noise with these.

Thanks for the reply SSdoxy. My memory is so bad, I assume I changed both filters but maybe not. So the other filter number must be the correct filter for the hydraulics. I can't help but wonder why 2 filters if the hst uses the same oil as other hydraulics on the tractor. But then again, what do I know. I don't even know if I changed the black filter 3 years ago.

About the fluid. I plan on using Kubota fluid. I was just wondering if the super UDT2 is the thing to use nowadays instead of the older super UDT.

My understanding is the SUDT (being discontinued) is being replaced with UDT2 so at some point in time many/most/all people will be doing the change and since some of the fluid hides there will be some degree of blending for almost all. That's my feeling.

Also, you did change the hydraulic filter as the original would have been dark gray, not black. my hydrostat filter is white, and the hydraulic filter is kinda olive drab color, but both were painted the same color as all of the lower part of the tractor, dark gray. Of course they are different filters, and must be replaced by the correct ones. The value of your tractor is considerably more than the price of some filters.

The HST has its own filter on the suction side because a clean supply of oil is critical to the life of an HST.
The two filters have different bases so you can't get them mixed up.

Thanks again for all the replies. I didn't know that the bases were different on the 2 filters. Makes me feel more at ease that I cannot put on the wrong filter. Still I wonder why one filter couldn't have been designed. Probably has something to do with an optional manual tranny.

About mixing the udt fluids. I have about a gallon of udt left over from my front axle oil change so I was only going to buy 4 gal. of oil and use my left over to top off. The book says it should take 4.2 gal. so thats the reason for me to question the mixing of both oils. Now have to save my pennies. Over $130 this round for maintenance.
Have to pay to play.

I just changed the hydraulic filter on my MX4700 at 11 hours.I only changed because that I had dented the original.Park on slope, lowered FEL after shutting engine off.Work joystick in all directions.Only lost about a pint or two.I just realized that I left the magnet in the old filter,so I suppose that I will have to do it again. Are we supposed to clean and reuse the magnet in the old filter? Thanks

My new filter came with a magnet on it.
