Compact sub compact?

That'll work! Also, I suspect any splitter designed to run off a live hydraulic feed from the tractor could also be converted to run off PTO pump, if it has room to arrange a reservoir. The requirement for a reservoir (~1/2 gallon per GPM) is the reason you see many of the cheaper ones rigged to run only off tractor hydraulics. Without a reservoir, you're going to have problems both with fluid expansion and with cooking the fluid, as the capacity is what makes for a cheap oil cooler.

Yes very valuable when I was building up there. Total pain to take off and put on though. If I ever got another one I'd definitely find one with the hydraulic pump running off the PTO instead of plugging into tractors hydraulics but that's me and something's that definitely easier to take off and put on especially if your a one man operation lol.
Good to know - thanks… I’m definitely not looking for a hassle!

Mine was an aftermarket 3 point bh seems newer model specific ones are easier to remove and put on. the bf 500 fel sub frame somewhat ran back to it or at least the rear axle. Was always somewhat worried I'd break where the top link was, which was a ridgid piece of steel from bh pinned into where you would mount top link on tractor, As for independent hydraulics I've worked that bh hard at times to the point hydraulic fluid would expand out of the breather, on filler tube. Definitely wouldn't want to work my old tractors hydraulic system That hard. But like I said that's me.

My aftermarket 3-point backhoe was a complete pain to install, not even counting having to mess with the PTO driven pump.

Meanwhile, the ones powered by the tractors' hydraulics are easy to deal with. Especially the one on the BX25D since it's so tiny and light.

It’s been a while but when I priced out a 3 point splitter and getting all the hydraulics it cost more than a stand alone.
Had little idea, seen a few pricy skid steer splitters guess I was pricing them out somewhat from used ones I've seen come up from time to time, with independent hydraulics run off the rear pto

lol the easiest thing for me to hook up on mine was the PTO powered pump. Several times I hooked pump up first and tried to use bh hydraulics to finish attaching it. Still royal pia for me doing it alone.

If the hydraulics on my existing splitter remain strong probably replace the old starting to fail Kohler with a horizontal shaft Honda gx or even the hf predator Honda clone.

Not trying to get the cart before the horse but pretty much narrowed down my choice to a new 21 hp tym manufactured sub compact with loaded r14 tires probably the small tires won't offer much in terms of weight but having difficulties finding two potential attachments a manual angle 5 or 6 foot xb qa snow plow, all I've seen are hydraulic angle ones, admittedly they are nice, but I've devised a plowing system where I only have to get off equipment or atv and change angle on plow once or twice at most probably kick myself for not splurging and getting third function, also a 3pt log splitter with PTO pump you couple to the rear PTO shaft. Not plug into tractors hydraulic system, like all I've viewed.
Thanks

TYM makes a great tractor they say. I would consider one too.

They're even making machines for Yanmar. I'm not 100% sold on that, I'd probably just buy a Yanmar or a TYM over a Yanmar badged TYM, but that's me.
