blueriver, the fingers are part of the pressure plate assembly. The to bearing presses on them and they lift the actual pressure plate. In my mind, if the fingers are miss adjusted the plate wont rise evenly and thus the clutch is more likely to drag/engage early/etc. ... This would be harder on the throw out bearing too because the fingers would be pressing on the bearings face with much different forces and thereby tend to rock the bearing back and forth as the engine rotated.

Understood .. and they showed me that. There where marks around the many fingers from the T.O. bearing where it had been wearing against them ... they said those marks are no concern, the T.O. was not total toast, it still was functioning but was taking a heck of a beating.
I had never seen the action of a T.O. bearing until yesterday when he showed me how in worked .. I was amazed at how little it moved. I can see now how the slighest adjustment can have an impact on its ability to function.
So, I quess they know best and when they set the freeplay thats where it will be. I am worried in the event after a few hrs if the shuttle quits again and adjustment needs to be done to the freeplay ... will I do it right?
