In my workshop stove. Companies are glad they dont have to pay dump fee, i dont have to pay 100 dollar per yard for firewood and still have to split it and dry for 2 to 3 years, i only use a circular saw and 3 months of drying. I dont mind walking an extra time to fill the heater because pine burns faster than oak with todays firewood prices...

Nothing really clever about it, but I cut a couple of large pallets in half because the half-sized ones are easier to move around, take up less space and are "right-sized" for small loads. For instance, I just want to keep 5 bags of fertilizer off the concrete for a couple of weeks, etc.

Worked at a place that always had too many pallets, set out for free. I tried everything with them..... tables and other furniture, planters, bird houses, dog houses, goat sheds, fire wood, concrete forms, fencing... etc. Never sold a single thing made out of these. But they work really well to keep fire wood off the ground. Found a local mill, on the way in to town, that made them and stakes. Has everyday, a huge pile of the untreated waste wood they set out for free.... take as much as you want. And the crap scraps are usually 17 to 15 inches in length, perfect for the wood stove. So we have free heating all winter. As a Thank You, I sweep up the site and keep it clean and tidy.

There is a guy on Craigs List locally who takes the really nice pallets and builds these for all kinds of wagons or trucks. For the labor, black stain, brackets and fasteners, he isn't making much money from this work.

Speaking of pallet uses...
what methods do folks use to tear pallets apart and still have useable material? I have cut the nails, used a hammer and nail bar and also just busted them apart with a sledge. All 3 work but are very time consuming. Anyone got a slicker trick?

For about 5 minutes I tried using pallet wood for kindling. Realized it was impossible to get the nails out, so used a chainsaw to cut out the parts with nails and threw them in the trash.
