choosing between a used with no DPF and newer with DPF

I like the ergo on the JD's too. My personal opinion is that the Kubota MX series is way overpriced for what you get. Maybe it was the dealer I was dealing with. I like a bar bones tractor, but for 32k I can about get into a R series John Deere that has a ton of bells and whistles. I chose a Yanmar YT347 instead because I felt it gave me the best bang for my dollar.

Edit: Personally I'd keep the 4020 and get a smaller "loader tractor". I have a 59 Fordson that I keep around to pull a disc and push hog with. Sometimes you can't beat the muscle and simplicity of "old iron".

Check the Deere and Kubota forums for user reports of regens and DPF problems for the models you're considering. When I was researching Kubota L01 series I didn't find any reports of dpf system problems (unlike the B3350 which had issues). On the larger Kubotas many people said that they only noticed a regen while operating because the light went on. The DPF needs heat to work; the larger engines seem to get it hot more reliably than the small ones.

DPF clogs faster if the tractor is not run hard. If you like to idle a lot then changing your operating habits can extend the time between regens.

If/when it clogs there are cleaning services for some $hundreds. Replacement is not the only option. They are designed to handle commercial use; hobby users put on way fewer hours. Few of us are going to reach that 3000 hour target in our lifetimes.

It's nice not breathing sooty exhaust. The Yanmars look really nice. If I was buying now and there was a dealer within range I'd have looked at them.

I have had my MX5800 going on 2 yr now. No issues whatsoever. Yhe dpf has not been a problem. The only thing i wish it had is the gauge that keeps you informed as to the percent your dpf is full so you know about when you will have regeneration. The regeneration is painless. Just keep the rpm up and keep working. Mine gets about the same usage as yours. I do have the rear tires filled with beet juice.

It depends on how Kubota is structuring the incentive financing, and on the dealer. When I was shopping Kubotas winter before last there was no cash discount. One dealer told me that the then-current deal was that Kubota supplies the financing so the dealer cost is the same either way. But he said that it had been different in the past. Kubota changes their incentives a few times a year. Other brands will have different deals. You're right that the difference between 0% and the going rate is getting paid by the consumer somehow, but sometimes the way it's structured you can't capture that savings by paying cash.

The way I see it. As soon as you want something and aren't going to put the CASH on the barrel head, someone is going to take advantage of you.

You just gotta know what you're doing and run the the numbers.

I can easily earn 3% on 30k by not spending the cash...you have look at lost opportunity too. I've negotited the same price financed...some dealer beat another 500 to fiance others don't.

My only concern is having to screw around with a dpf headache for the next 20 yrs....but most don't seem to mind the dpf

Love my MX, but I bought it in 2012... no dpf. However, they are great tractors, don't be afraid of the dpf.

Not around here! When I priced a new Kubota M7060HDC12 in February I asked the dealer to give me a formal (printed) quote with his lowest price, and I was prepared to pay cash. The quote matched the price exactly that I had building the identical tractor on the Kubota web site - no discount whatsoever. In fact, after adding assembly fees, transportation fee, and sales tax the price downright staggered me! So I was very happy when I found a slightly used one for sale-saved me a lot of money.
