To make a cheap key safe , get a discarded fuse panel and attach some cable or conduit to look effective and take out the insides and install hooks. Most people would never think to look there. You do not know where I live!

Lots of panels have locking capability
Soundguy -- if you can find me by my IP address my internet provider does not have enough customers:rolleyes:

Makes our maps simpler:p:p -- and no need for GPS, however that one east west road is 16 -20 lanes in spots and always seems to have some American driving in the fast lane @ the speed limit:rolleyes::rolleyes: -- last one I saw had Florida plates -- you been looking for me?

Moonlite -- welcome aboard and hope you will forgive the hijack -- your idea for the key safe is a good one. It would proably work well for a lot of small items. With the right stickers on it I am not sure anyone would ever look there -- including the electrical inspector:p

When I was production engineer in tool factory - long time ago - I build a small safe myself. Since it was in Prague, all houses are brick or concrete and all you needed was the front plate and a hole in the wall.
Anyway, I found some scrap metal - it was CSN19552 tool steel for aluminum molds, I think US equivalent would H13 - one inch thick plate. I squared it on a mill and drilled as big hole as possible in the middle and on big lathe turned corresponding piece. For the lock I used a door lock insert with some modifications. There were no hinges, you had to unlock the round piece and take it all out. The whole thing was 20 pounds or more and to take the door out you needed both hands. But it was free - and the steel was an overkill:)

Reminds me of friends dad. He worked in a Airplane factory and in the heap pile found a fan from turboprop engine. Next thing you know, it was a cutting blade on his push mower:D
