I have 2 chainsaws. the first is a very old sthil there is plenty of fuel in it but it is only running half way up the fuel line. I have cleaned the carb and fuel lines and all seem to be ok.

Im not sure of the make of the second. It is very hard to pull the starter rope. I removed the sparkplug and it turned over fine. I have not changed the spark plug and im sure its the correct size. I have also remover the exaust but it still will not pull unless I remove the spark plug.

Any help would be welcome Thanks.

For the one check/replace the fuel lines.

On the other pull the plug, put some oil in the cylinder and turn it over quite a few times to see if anything loosens up. Also see if there is a decompression button.

I agree with Egon, if that doesn't work, you may have a dried out diaphragm in the carburetor. If they get dried out and stiff, they won't pump the fuel.

Think its the diaphragm as it does feel a bit stiff. problem is its a old sthil possible made in the 1980s can I still get parts for it?

You should be able to find a whole kit for the carb. You will need the name of the manufacturer of the carb and the model number stamped on the carb. Take that info to any small engine repair shop or go on line to find a repair kit for the carb. It should have everything you need; diaphragms, gaskets, needle, metering lever, etc..
