Tire Chains by Tirechains.com .See a bunch of different versions here. Just wondering if anyone has experience with any of these stlyes. V-bars look good but if they flip over the advantage is gone. Opinions/thoughts welcome!

I've run v-bar chains for years and never had any problem with them flipping over.

I just bought and installed a set of "Duo-Grip" (H pattern) chains for my 5030. I paid $382 (14.9 x 26) at a local Les Schwab dealer and they are very beefy. I pondered the "V Bar" and did not think the price bump (I seem to remember about $100) was worth whatever purported advantage they might possess. Tirechains.com has the v bars for the same price I paid for the non-V Duo-Grip, but the shipping would still eat my savings.

We get big snow, lots of ice, and fairly cold (late Dec and Jan is always minus degree time). We are snow and ice covered now, and so far with the chains on, I have plowed about 4 miles of road and pulled out a large truck that was stuck.

No loss of traction or even a hint thereof.

Ladder vbar type chains can make for a very rough ride with small tires.

I've been considering chains for my JD4100 4WD Hydro. There are several types I can use on the rear tires, but a very limited choice for the front. Basically just a cross chain type.

Do I really need chains on all four wheels, or just the rears? I can see where front chains would help with steering.

You shouldn't put chains on the front, it doesn't allow for slippage between front and rear axles. On my 4110 there would also be major clearance issues. I can understand your wanting better steering though,with chains on the rear and snow under the front it seems to have a mind of it's own. I steer with the brakes when pushing snow. It adds to the fun

If you know any retired independent truckers tou may be abke to pick up a set of chains on the cheep,just have to cut them down to fit.

I made some up for my Cadet from old car chains. You could probably combine two sets of those for most CUT tires. The repair links to put them together are about $1.50 each around here.

Lots of truck shops and trucking companies have tons of used chains that are of no use to them. After they have so much wear, they quit using them. They can be bought for almost nothing or sometimes they will even give them away.

I wonder if anyone has ever tried to stud tractor tires instead of using chains?

Strange you should be asking that. I have been thinking about taking old tires , cutting them down, putting in short bolts and then placing them over the existing tires. Thinking but no action as of yet.

I have four ladder vlink chains on small tires and the pavement ride is not pleasant!

how did you hook up your plow do they sell a QA plate already made.

I use a Curtis 7 foot blade on my Kubota 5030 with 853 Quick Attach A FEL. The Curtis uses a proprietary (but common) QA system

I also installed the W.R. Long electric(solenoid)/hydraulic system for power angle function. This gives left and right angle added to the normal lift and curl actions.

It is on and off in 2 minutes: detach bucket, drive to plow, hook in and throw levers, then plug in 2 hoses and go to work.

I had chains on my first tractor, Challenger 255, with loaded tires. Worked great. I never tied it without. I now have a Challenger 265B and need to sell my old chains before getting new ones. The first storms maybe without chains. Below is some information about my plow setup.

I have a Challenger 265B with a Q/A FEL. On my prevous tractor I built a bracket to attach a standard truck plow (fisher in my case). On the first tractor I hooked into the curl feature. It was not the best choice, but worked. With the new 265B I added aux. hydraulics front and rear. I use the front for the left/right angle of the plow and have all the other movements of the FEL available. I also just hooked up a rear hydraulic cylinder on the 3 point hitch.

Here is a pic of the Q/A for the front with the homemade forks. You might be able to see the two plates on either side the plow hooks into. The Hydraulic connectors are on the upper portion of the FEL.

I ordered a set of double diamond "Forestrac" chains from Wallingfords. American made I will go pick them up in about a week, as this is not a stock size for my tires. Was there yesterday and went for a tour of the plant. I was impressed. They will make any style/size you want.

These look to be quite rugged, and I should not ever wear them out in my lifetime.

How have the chains ordered through Wallingfords worked out? I am considering a single diamond style purchase made by american chains but sold through Wallingford. Do the studs tear up asphalt? I will use them for skidding out wood during the winter season and should help me to clear the driveway. thanks
