Chain Saw scabbard

I posted a while back looking for scabbard ideas. I had some of this 1/2 plastic in the shop so built a scabbard out of that. Figured that it wouldn't be damaged by or damage the saw chain. It cuts easily on the table saw, drills and counter sinks well. Then the question was where to mount it. Clamped it in several locations before deciding on the right side of the ROPS. Drilled and tapped 3 3/8x16 holes and used flat head socket head screws so as not to hit the blade. Now the saw is with me when I brush cut and out of the way until needed.

I did the same thing only i used ply wood. Didn't hold up very well from the chain. I'll be making a new one like yours.

I did something similar using 1/4" sheet plastic on my ballast box.

Nice. What are those two lines of bolts on the face of the ballast box?

From the angle of the picture I couldn't tell if it blocked off the amber hazard light. I this time of sue happy folks, make sure you keep all lights operational & visible. Do you use a strap to keep your saw from bouncing around?

The box uses scrap iron for weight, up to about 8" from the top. The top row of bolts holds a galvanized shelf, leaving room for tools & chains:



The lower row holds the RR rail legs & receiver tube:

It is the angle of the shot that somewhat hides the warning light. I don't get onto the road ways often, so even if it did there is little likely hood of an issue. As for a strap I don't have one, that Rancher is a pretty heavy saw and doesn't move around much.

My first inclination was to mount it to my ballast box however the times I've wanted the saw handy were those when another implement was on the hitch, most often the brush cutter as I am cutting trails. I'd like to remove some lower branches or remove a downed trunk from the trail.
