Hi everyone,

I posted this question in another forum but no response yet. Maybe I was not clear.
I just purchased a new 2008 4320 with a 400x loader and HD bucket. I am going to weld on some chain hooks and would like to know what kind of chain to buy for pulling and lifting. What size chain and what grade do I need for a tractor with that HP?

Thanks
Dave

Grade 70 5/16" should be plenty sufficient for anything you are going to do. I use 5/16" grade 70 for everything with my 50 hp Kubota and that has a lift of 3300 lbs, never broken one yet.

If your real nervous, 3/8" grade 70 is overkill, I have a bunch I use if the 5/16" isn't handy, just bulkier and not necessary.

The key is grade 70 or 80, do not go any lighter in grade, you will break anything smaller. We used to have a 1/4" grade 100 chain on the farm. Handiest chain we ever had. Couldn't break it, but expensive to buy grade 100.

You can buy these at Lowes, Home Depot and Tractor Supply in grade 70 for about $30 to $40 bucks.

Just to add to the great info you already received, AW Direct has great hooks for welding onto your bucket.

Steve

My Tractor Supply wanted $64 for just 20 feet of grade 70 chain no hooks.

A couple years ago I found 30-40 feet of 1/2" G43 chain with slip hooks laying in the middle of the highway. Reading this thread and checking specs 1/2" G43 9,200 lbs work limit, 27,600 lbs breaking strength. G70 3/8" chain has 6,600 lbs work limit and a 26,400 lbs. breaking stringth. G70 is some tough chain.
