Do you think three hooks will be enough? I was planning on making something less permenant for welded wire fence. I was going to just use very long screws to clamp the welded wire fence between two 2x4's. From the top and bottom of the 2x4's I was going to run ratchet straps to the back of the tractor so I could control the tension at the top and bottom somewhat independantly. I'm looking for a less permenant solution since I don't plan on putting up lots of fence.

Here's a shot of my field fence horse wire puller. I got tired of the two by fours and bolts.

Very nice. It looks like you must put up fence often? I'm going to put it up this summer, and then again maybe 20 years from now. I suspect I can live with the 2x4's for now as all I have are two lengths of about 300', one length of 100', and, and one length of say 80'.

Wroughtn Harv - How does it grip the fence. I'm tired of 2x4's and bolts too.

Harv can't really tell from the picture, is that a rebar jig?

according to my friend it is, i haven't put up any chain link. he says he puts the metal bar thru the fence then grabs that with the hooks. i use the 2 x 4 with bolts and clamp around all the field fence i put up.

Sorta like the one pictured?

This one has done a ton of pulling fence. If you look close you'll see quarter inch lags into the wood with welded bolts so there are fewer loose parts when using.

We've got it holding up a temporary fence.

Here's another picture of it.

The two board trick works. But it takes time, bolts wear out, nuts get lost, pain in the butt.

Somewhere on TBN there's a thread with lots of pictures of the fence stretcher.

Basically it works on the friction principle. The wire is fed through the slot and around the floating rod. When tension is applied the floating rod makes the wire work against itself.

When pulling field type fencing I look to pull past the end post to keep the fabric really really tight.

If you like the stretcher you'll want to marry the fence unroller. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You can put the wire on either side of the framework.
