I am new to this forum and have a 1995 Case 580 Super L and its slipping out of gear intermittently. The dealership says its the clutch and will cost about 4k to fix. Any ideas?

Just thinking out loud... Could be the electrical switch that activates the clutch cutout. I dunno all the circuits involved in that but on my
old 580D the switch came loose on the shuttle and she stopped cold. Tightened it back up and it pushed it's detent ball back in the case and everything was fine.
The super L uses a different trans than my D but it has a cutout
for loading and shifting too.
Could be a chaffed wire or flakey switch activating the cutout.
Just an Idea...

Thanks Scott that sounds a lot better than a new clutch. I guess that i should buy a manual to help trace the problem. Any suggestions?

I got the manual for my D at Case. four digits but paid for itself
on my first repair. I understand the ones on Cd are cheaper.
I got a hard copy.

You can look at parts diagrams at Cases website. Also very handy
and free.
