Case 1835B skid steer
Can anyone tell me why my drive chain housing is filling with hydraulic oil? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I do believe your drive motor is leaking.

Any idea on how hard and expensive that will be to fix?

I don't, but someone on TBN almost totally rebuilt an 1845. Might do a search.

I have the service manual for the 1845C. Will take a look and see what I can find.

The hyd drive motors are connected to the planetary drive which are bolted to the chain housing. I believe the only way hyd fluid can get into the chain housing is through the planetary gear box.

I believe a way to check if the drive motor is leaking is to jack the skid steer up on blocks, and remove the wheels and the drive motor. Then start up the engine and engage the drive and see if the shaft seals are leaking. Another way would be to remove the drive motor, and take to a hyd shop for testing, and if leaking, get an estimate for seals or whatever. If you think you can do it, have them order the seals for the motor and do it yourself.

You have to roll the cab back, lock the arms up!!! Then remove the hoses and unbolt the motor!

The 1835B is a little different than the 1845.

The drive motor doesn't bolt to a planetary on the 1835B, it mounts to the chain case and there's no center or 'idler' sprocket in the chain system.

I've attached a parts diagram that may help you.

Thanks! I think I should buy a manual. Any suggestions or should I just go to my Case dealer?

I have a IH 3200 Series A Skid Steer, 1970's model. It requires 7 1/2 quarts of SAE 20 to be put into the chain case housing. Not sure if you have a leak or if your machine requires same. Attached pdf file is an excerpt from my operators manual.

I am new to owning an 1835B uniloader and my left hand drive motor is leaking oil into the drive chain case.
So I am thinking of trying to remove the drive motor and see if a new set of seals will fix it, if I can get parts.
What is the procedure to get the drive motor out? Do you need to dismantle the drive chains and gears? Do you have to dismantle the hydraulic pump to get the drive motor to slide out?
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know the difference other than engine between the 1835B and a 1995 Case 1838. On another thread I read the 1838 is basically the same as the 1840 except a smaller engine. It is near me but I have not looked at it. He is young I guess and wants to good to school instead for working for himself building. He states he has put 300 hours on it and is showing nearly 2700 and all it needs is an alternator. It does have the clam shell loader bucket and the steel tracks that are driven by the R-4 tires.

Knowing nothing about skid loaders it may be ready for everything to be replaced?
