This new WC46 chipper plus new QH are about 580 #. That's almost 300 # heavier than the 288# TPH-122 I had. Can feel it back there. With heavy loads in the FEL, I always carry it very low.

Thinking maybe I should move the adjustable, bypassable stop on the JD's 3ph jack shaft control to show where it's about half way up. Can bypass it and raise it to go up the ramp into its garage.

What do others do?

Enjoy the new chipper! Doesn't the 3 point raise far enough now to get in the garage? Maybe I'm not understanding your question.

My Woodmaxx 8H weighs 900+ lbs. I have to raise it all the way and tip it up farther with the hydraulic top link so it will clear the short steep ramp out the barn. I just remember to lower it when I'm out, and double check before I traverse a side hill. Sometimes I have to raise it again when going up a slope. Paying attention to where my FEL and implements are is just a part of operating on steep land.

On another note, make sure you park it in the lowered position.

I never lowered mine when I parked it. This year I bought a heavy tiller and was leaving it up. Now my 3pt leaks down with the engine off. So far there's no sign of loss if lifting power but I know the seals are damaged.

Oh that's unfortunate. Hopefully it's not too hard to fix. I always put implements and FEL down when I park, for safety. But I didn't think that not doing so might damage the 3pt.

I guess yours are bypass-able, but aren’t stops usually so you don’t lower an attachment too much? Like a plow or tiller, etc..? Maybe not. Looks like you can use them anyway you want.
Like others say, you still have to pay attention.
I find that, in life, and in general, trying to automate or systematize something has a tendency to make people stop paying attention. Most times that’s ok...sometimes it goes very bad.

JMHO - my LPGS is 900#. My rear blade is 1050#. I think they, more or less, have the same effect on the 3-point arms and hydraulic top link. That's because the LPGS sticks out back further than the rear blade. In effect - added length will give an implement the same lateral momentum as added weight.

My 3-point jack shaft control lever and float control lever, both, have upper and lower stop limits. I have the upper limits set as high as they will go and the lower limits set as low as they will go. The only time I ever "set" these limits is when using my single bottom moldboard plow.

When I'm going somewhere on the property - just putting along - I have either implement raised to the max height. That's unless it's in use. The implement is at full height because I will be passing over rocks and sage brush. Don't need to have the implement catch up on either.

I also believe that on heavy implements it's important to have the 3-point telescopic stabilizers set up pretty close to tight. About 1" of sway to left and right is just about right. This stops heavy implements from getting much lateral momentum as I putt along.

Use check chains to limit its low position, other wise raise and lower as required.... Yes you are probably in need front end ballast to keep front steering from becoming light...

Got it set so that it only raises about 3 inches. On the JD, the jack shaft set is bypassable and therefore usable for either stopping down motion or up.

So, I'll use it for the bush hog for a down stop and the chipper for an up stop.

Bypass to sit bush hog on the floor and to get the chipper up the garage ramp.
