I've got an ECHO 370 chainsaw, a string trimmer, wheeled trimmer, hedge trimmer all ECHO, never had a lick of problem with any of them. I've been lucky to never have to run ethanol fuel in any of them so far, all even have the original primer bulb. There are other good brands as well but I'm sticking with them.

I'd have to guess like others your FIL's "commercial Husqvarna chainsaw" did not have the improved antivibration design of today’s quality saws.

Husqvarna, Stihl and Echo are all quality manufactures, your dealer is also a very improtant consideration.

I have 3 Stihl and the Echo CS-2511P which I use for predominantly for cutting limbs off after I have dropped a tree with one of my larger saw's. I like the 2511 for it's light weight because as I have gotten older I just don't have the upper body strength. I also use it for when I'm clearing a trail to cut small saplings off close to the ground again for it's light weight and maneuverability.

If your cutting relatively smaller (8" or less) stuff the Echo CS-2511P is a good choice. If its the only saw I had and I needed to cut a 14 or 16" diameter tree down can it do it, it sure can but it would not be something I'd want to do on a regular bases.

Good luck with your search and let us know what you decide.

I have a 10 yr old used flea-bay Echo 16" saw that is easy to start and use today. Good saws

Most all the new Echo's use a reduced effort starting system too. I like my little top handle pruning saw and it was under half the price of the Stihl.

Stihl has been living on their name for a while now. All the new Echo's are made in Japan btw. Very quality saw. Far as chains go, I sharpen all my own, have an Oregon chain grinder so I keep all of them razor sharp.

I own 3 echo saws and their two stroke tiller/cultivator. I've been happy with Echo for 25+ years.

Thank you, folks; I'm feeling like this little saw may be the way to go, and that it ought to last me quite a while.

Nice trim saws.

If you figure out you need alittle more out of them without porting. A friend does these for them and dyno proved the gains.
Need to know how to tune carb .

Oh that is really cool. Between this and the turbo L2501 thread I am starting to appreciate post-warranty modifications, lol.

I had a small echo gasser and now have the 58v electric. I highly recommend the battery one. The extra weight is more than made up for by the lack of ripcord. Sometimes, starting the gas one wears you out before you get cutting.

See if your dealer will let you try one for a day.

Only thing I did to mine (besides the bucking spikes that I made in the shop) was, I removed the CAT muffler and replaced it with a non CAT muffler. Did that before I even started it.

Again, I recommend synthetic fuel, especially if the saw sits for long periods not used. The syn fuel has an average life of 5 years in a saw or weed eater.

Not cheap but worth the no aggravation.

Echo sells their brand 'Red Armor' but I use the Tru-Fuel 50-1 mix. I believe Stihl also has their brand of syn fuel as well.

The bigger Echo's come with bucking spikes. My little top handle did not. We have a new full line Echo dealer just south of me. I'll be dropping in soon.
