BX 2230 Starting problem

I have a BX 2230 that the starter will not turn over. Odd thing is that the preheaters - glow plugs? - buzz when the key is in all positions except "OFF". They used to function only when the key was turned to the position between "RUN" and "START" which I believe to be normal. Already have a new ignition switch. Any ideas while I wait for my service manual to arrive?

Is the battery good? Load test it to make sure.

You're right, (at least if the switch is like mine), Battery - ACC when turned on, between on and start is glow plugs. I took my switch apart and cleaned up, but I don't think it was the problem. Buying a new positive cable for mine.

I don't have a way to load test a battery but lights and panel do not dim when trying to start. Will try boost charger today if rain stops long enough.

Sounds like you have an issue with the permissive circuit that energizes the starter solenoid

Many threads here and at OTT about this. Do a search and you will find some things to check...

Edit: you are correct, if when you try to start the engine, if the lights do not dim, you likely have an issue independent of battery condition.

Buy a load tester, they are less than $50. I can’t tell you how many times I wondered if I had a weak battery and never bought a load tester, I finally bought one at O’reilys. In your case it’s probably something else but I’d still eliminate the easy thing like the battery, especially if it’s older.

Update:
Good news and bad news.
Good news - tractor now starts and stops normally.
Bad news - I don’t know why.
I was waiting for my manual to arrive and just for the heckuvvit tried starting it and it did. Absolutely no issues since.
I’ll use it through leaf season (hopefully) and then do a thorough electrical check.
Thanks for the help and I’ll report back if and when I find the problem.
