Tractor
ford 3000 JD5095M, 1500kabota, ford 600
Ok guys I know this maybe the wrong forum for this, we have ALWAYS been Ford people, trucks and tractors,,
But now we need a little bigger tractor ,, and after months I have it narrowed down between a NH Td 5050, and a JD 5095M
same horse, both with cabs, JD has 32 frwd 16 reverse,, NH 12by12,
NH has bigger tires front and rear,,
JD has beefier looking lift for the 3 point lift arms,
JD priced about $4000 HIGHER,,
JD built in GA,,well assembled in GA,,,,NH in Italy,,,
can anyone give an unbiased opinion?

when we buy a tractor,, we usually have them for life,,hopefully thats a LONG TIME YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could be unbiased but can't. I went blue. Mainly because Green didn't have a front mount blower and also price. Don't think you can go wrong with either one.

What are you going to use it for? Do you need the bigger tires of the NH? The more forward gears of the JD?

What are your opinions of the JD and NH dealers?

I know this isn't true for everyone, but my comfort level (or lack thereof) with a dealer often helps me make a choice.

I own a TD5030 open station that I bought this year. I am very happy with it. I have no doubt that John Deere has an equally good model that I might be happy with as well. What led me to New Holland was the dealer. I am confident that my dealer will do what it takes to resolve any problem that I may have with my purchase. He also has very knowledgeable sales/service staff.

I guess my suggestion is to start with researching dealers.

It depends where you are.

Around here (Southern Oregon) as I drive around and look, there are a few older Fords, but almost no New Hollands. A lot of Deeres, and a few Kubotas. If you want to be able to get reasonable resale value here, go for the Deere.

Other places may be different, but buying what is most popular locally is always a good plan.

Every time you drive through the countryside you get a chance to do your own survey.

if you want to i can give you more info and comparison of the two tractors, and actually the Deere 5093E is close in comparison than the M series

yep.. that ground up ca$h they must use for the paint pigment has always kept me away from them.

I agree.. both would be capable machines.

good luck

Cannot answer without bias. Have had relatively few issues with M series tractors. Love the wet clutches. Much improved over dry clutch system. Good tractor.

Haha.... ground up money. Haven't heard that one. My buddy always says JD stands for Jillion Dollars.

we plow , disk, rototill, and Hay!,,I'm confidant in both dealers, maybe lean towards the NH guy a bit more because he helps me out with My other tractor{ford}. around our area,, it's BIG GREEN!,,,I kinda thought that was every where though? I like the idea of more forward gears for hay and tillage, I like the heavier hydraulics on the deers threepoint hitch,,Maybe I'm trying to get some one to talk me OUT of the deer!LOL I wonder about NH's rep, hoping Fiat has put effort into the NH program,,

If everything is pointing to the deere get it. I plan on buying either a Deere or Kubota for a new vineyard tractor over everything else unless something changes. The only reason is that their cabs are easier for me to get in and out of and to work in them all day. The other vineyard tractor cabs are too cramped for me now so I am limited. I use to try and buy everything in blue or red paint but gave up on it and now just buy what fits my farm and health best.

good one. I'll have to tell the guys at work that one... makes sense.. I'm sure it takes plenty of dead presidents to make all that greene pigment.. has to looking at their MSRP.. :)

In my area, if you are rich, you can get a jd.. if you well off, you can afford a kubota, if on a budget, a NH or MF, if tight, then a 2nd or 3rd tier brand like chinese, branson, farmtrack.. etc.. etc..mahindra ).. and if near broke.. then an antique.. did I mention I collect antiques? :)

I'd go with more forward gears and heavier hydraulics on the threepoint hitch reguardless of color.

/ buying new, Deer vs New Holland? #16
yep.. those mean a whole lot more than color.. if you can afford them.

Chris, Deere isn't always the most expensive. It depends on area and dealers. Here now my local NH dealer is probably the most expensive but 10 years ago when I bought my TN the John Deere equivilant was only $1400 more while Case-IH and Agco were $5k more. I never did price a kubota back then. The vineyard tractors I am looking at now are close but the most expensive offering here is actually from Deutz-Fahr as that dealer wants more for their tractor then everyone else here except maybe the Massey/Landini/McCormick dealer (the Deutz-Fahr dealers brother).

Don't forget to look at the 'affinity' programs (deere term). Deere gives a pretty hi discount to 1/4 horse assn. members. IF the model you want is on that list, join for the discount. Others may have programs too.

i'll add that the local deere, while priced astronomically high, does on the other hand have some pretty attractive and creative finance and incentive programs...
