If the John Deer dealer is charging $700.00 + more than the John Deer web site says list is (3 point attachment) and calling it list on a price tag attached to the implement is there something I am missing or should I be looking for another dealer? I believe a fair price benefits everyone but that kind of pricing is making me think I need a new dealer.

Isn't a dealer free to charge whatever he wants?

I agree with Duffster, dealers are free to price it however they want.

On that token....You're also free to shop where you want....Dont make a stink about it and just find yourself another dealership with better pricing. Speaking with your wallet is 50x more effective then all the hellraising in the world.

If its just for an implement your not tied to a JD Dealership...NONE of my attachments come from my JD Dealership....not because I dont like my dealer, but because I was usually in the right place at the right time on the other pieces.

I agree with all three of you. Dealer can charge what he wants. You need to find a new dealer.
Or you can point out the gouge to the dealer and see if he comes around with a fair price.
Myself, I would move on.

I can only speak from what my brother went through with Deere and buying a ride along lawn mower. They sell the same thing at Lowes, but for less then what the dealer had it listed for. Deere is offereing really good financing, Lowes isn't. He tried to get them to match the price, but the dealer said that the price was set by Deere. He wasn't allowed to lower the price to match Lowes price. He kept at it and got a rep from Deere and the Dealer on a three way call to get the price lowered. He even got them to accept a 10% discount from Lowes on the price.

In this case, the Dealer couldn't change the price without the permision of Deere.

Thanks for the replies I appreciate it. I wasn't trying to make a stink just looking for something I might not be aware of. In this economy I try and support the people I have been dealing with before I look elsewhere. I did call the dealer and ask but I have not received a return call in 24 hours, that makes it easier.

For me, it is unusual if a JD dealer (or any company) charges more than list price, even if shipping is added on. An attachment could be higher than list if it was of unusual size, weight, required special shipping .... If he is calling it list and the price is $700 more than JD listed price, then that is deceitful and lying. I wouldn't be insulting or abusive, but I would politely ask the saleman or manager, why their price is $700 higher than JD website. Maybe there are options or something else pushing the price up higher. What was the attachment?

Thanks for your reply and I did ask but was told I would get a return call with the answer. No return call. The attachment is an SB1154 a snowblower that has been sitting there since early spring.

Could it be something as simple as an old price that doesn't reflect the current list price? Happens once in a while at my business. Price tag didn't get changed when it should have. Just a suggestion.

I am in retail and i can tell you that no manufacture can tell you what you have to sell a product for. That is illegal. A manufacture can tell you what you can advertise at. We call this MAP (minimum advertised price) . which means that i can't advertise below that price but i can set my price for what ever i want. it falls under some federal free trade thing. . . there was just a big case in NY and one in FL this year about it.

How much is the snowblower, sometimes the attachment that is needed to hook up to the snowblower and tractor is not part of the snowblower price.

Update- My dealer called me back. They took the time to look up the price and determine there was a discrepancy. They then quoted me a fair price for the unit installed. Just wanted to let everyone know that they did treat me fairly.
Thanks for all of the support and guidance.
