Bungie Method Seems Easier for Chains

We had a half baked ice storm today so I figured it was a good time to get the chains on. For years I have been using a loop of light rope tied to the chains and hooked on the tread lugs to pull the chains up and around the tires by driving forward when mounting the chains. Without much trouble I should add. Last year I read some posts on TBN saying to use a bungie through a slot in the rim instead of a rope on a tread lug, especially for non-Ag tires. I decided to try the bungie method this year. It was alot easier. Mostly because the bungie was tight and it held the link firmly against the tire. So I only had one floppy end to deal with linking the two ends together. Much easier than two floppy ends where you wish you had three hands.

We used turnbuckles to hold our chains on this year. Three per tire. We put a nut on the turnbuckle and once they were tight we tightened the nut. None have come loose and the chains are tight as can be.

I think the OP was referring to a method to hold the chains while driving forward and bringing them around the tire for easier mounting.

Your chains could use some shortening of the side links, and then no need for taking up the extra slack with either bungie cord, rope, or turnbuckles (unless you need the chains for a larger tire on some other equipment).
I have no extra links on the inside, and just two extra links on the outside for tightening. Have no slop then.

Sorry misunderstood. The chain in the picture are not made for that tire. We adapted them to fit. Not perfect but they work and were free.
