I always thought Id'd be kinda neat to build a mini forage chopper that either is pto driven by a 20hp tractor or powered by a engine mounted on the machine. Anybody ever accomplish anything like it or maybe I'm totally crazy.

Ive thought about it plenty a times, Usally when I have to mow some tall weeds/grass, I already have a mini side delivery rake, And hay is priced 6-7+ bucks a bale this year.

sounds intersting to me. What would you do to store the feed that you would make? On the farm that I work at we pack it into a cement bunker and cover with plastic and tires. It needs to be sized right so that the feed out rate prevents spoilage. I was thinking a chipper would work for corn but have never tried it.

We had an old chopper like that when I was a kid, I think it was a newhollond but not sure. It had a one row corn head and a pickup head and ran on an old wisconson engine. We pulled it with a 35 hp ford jubilee and pulled a small trailer behind it. It can be done and has ben done. Sounds like fun.
