Has anyone tried mounting a sawblade on a brushhog? I was wondering if the back of the deck was removed, and a push arm was installed, could you slowly back into small trees (6" or less) and cut them off at or near ground level? I have a YM2620D. Is this enough power? I have seen rotory axes on a search of this topic. Thanks for your input.

There are some tree shear brands which work like you describe that are pto driven and can be tractor mounted but I have never seen one. My brother, who is a state forester, has seen them in action. I thought he saw them on 50-60 hp tractors. Your tractor is probably a little small and you would definitely want a slip clutch or lots of shear bolts. Hydrostat tractor would be easier than a clutch to nudge into the tree.
I tried out a hydraulically driven bobcat brush cat a few weeks ago. I thought it was nearly useless for cutting trees over 4" diameter. Way too slow cutting and difficult to just barely move the skid steer forward without stopping the blade. I didn't even try a 10" or bigger tree. The turning blade did not have enough torque and would smoke and get pinched by the tree. The friction on the blade killed the performance. For 1-2" brush, it worked great. I could just pivot the skid steer back and forth and mow down brush.

A chainsaw makes a lot more sense.

Here is what I see potentially happening. Your backing and cutting through a tree and the bush hog itself is not perfectly level and you will end up pinching the blade or bending the blade. Not to mention the terrain you are on is not absolutely perfectly level. Get a chain saw.
