o I got the old points off I got to lookin at them and noticed that the mount for the condenser and magnito is loose from the points? the new set I have is nice and tight. Could this be the reason there was no spark because it was not grounding properly to the points. I can take the little mount and twist it 360 degrees. This can not be good?

ok so before I took the old engine off I replaced the points with nos briggs and nos briggs condenser. guess what it fired up first try!!!!!!!! I could not believe it. Now I have a nice NOS briggs engine still in the crate that I got off ebay. I guess I will be saving it for my next speedex project. I will post pictures as soon as I get it all together.

Way to go! I'm glad you decided to give it a try before you took it out of the tractor.

It's the umbrella syndrome... If you have your umbrella with you it won't rain. Your engine wasn't going to be fixed until you didn't absolutely need it anymore.

Glad to see you got it going. Something so simple can be soo frustrating...

ok I am getting really close to beinge finished. All I have to do is hook up the throttle cable and choke cable going to have to do alittle fab work on the choke cable mount. I made a mistake and left the throttle cable bolts in when I sent the hood out to be powder coated and they got covered and I am going to have to drill them out. Last thing will be put the belt cover on and all new decals on the tractor and motor.

Are those the original colors? Never saw one with yellow as you have it.

the rims and the fenders are the orginal J.D. yellow but the hood and seat I thought I would do them in yellow also to give it a different look.

yeah as soon as I get the throttle adjusted the first thing I do will be to pull the starter braket off and paint it up. Only thing left is to get the idle set up right and put the belt cover and decals.DONE

ok got the tractor back togethernow. I got the motor running but I cannot get the idle down to where the motor will not cut off. It will run wide open but then when I pull the throttle down it chokes out. I rebuilt the carb so I know that is good. Here is the deal I can unhook the throttle cable and hold the tractor running by hand and it will stay on. I ordered new springs for the car linkage because I noticed alot of play while the throtle cable was moving., I would have to move the throttle cable about a inch and a half before the linkage would even move and then would just fall down and choke out. Any thoughts on this?

Well that's real purty! Is it a Christmas present for some lucky codger?
Maybe your throttle rod that holds the air plate is loose in its bore in the carb. When you hold it by hand you move it in/out a little and close off the extra air, but the cable lets too much in??? Just guessing.
Anyway nice work, and nice to see the old girl fixed, not scrapped.

Yeah I checked the orginal manual and I have the spring in the wrong place. It is getting too much air so that is the problem.
