box scraper question

What size box scraper would you recommend behind a B7510? Or maybe a better question is what is the largest I could effectively use? Thanks.

The B2400 manual sez 48" max, but I'm using a 60" and not having too much trouble with it. The 60" is at the upper most limits for it though. B2400- 24hp engine 18hp pto

I am in Central VA, also, and once I get down through the topsoil and most of the tree roots, I have no problem using a 60" box blade behind my Ford/NH 1520, with 23 Engine HP. I am running filled Turf tires for traction. Just depends on what kind of soil conditions you will be in. I would suggest that you get a box blade that covers your tracks. Other than that, you may have to take smaller bites if your blade is too large for the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

i bought a 60" to pull behind my 7610. unfortunately i cant tell you how well that works yet since its been too wet to do anything yet.

the dealer told me it would pull it just fine.

SOIL CONDITIONS will be your big factor.

If you have lots of clay, then size it down. If you have an old farm field that was worked yearly, then you shouldn't have any tree roots, etc. If you have sand, then you have no problems. If you have lots trees, scrub, bushes, then you will have lots of roots and may have to size it down.

I think your tractor is a 21hp? If so, you would probably want to stick with 48" to 54".

Thanks for the advice guys. My soil is predominantly clay, with a good bit of shale, and tree roots thrown in. Arggg. Gonna stick with a 48" for now and see what I can do with it.

I run a 21 hp tractor with a 60" box in heavy clay and would not drop a size. I can always make extra lighter passes but I can never get a 48" box to cover the tire foot print when it is time to do a final finish. If it is the ripping that is the concern put less teeth down at a time.

I would vote for the smallest size that will comer your tracks.

I've had a 48" box blade for 2 years in April. I took it off my tractor when I bought the BB and today I put it on and used it, er played in the dirt with it, for an hour. WOW! I love my 48" BB on my B7500.
It did 3 times the work I imagined. On the hill there's some old ore diggings and humps and bumps. I filled a hole with a hump 2 years ago using my FEL. I could have done it 1/2 the time with the BB and FEL.
The dirt is clay and shale (I reckon) with roots here and there and not one time did the B7500 struggle with a BB running over with dirt.
I lifted the scarfers, and pushed the high spots and it's amazing what I accomplished. I wanna go play more, er work.
Thanks to the TBN for all the BB tips over the years...I remembered some.
