Bought a new F150 yesterday to haul my tractor

It has taken years but I think my wife finally learned where to stand so I can see her... now if I can only get her to do hand signals better. I taught her how to hold her hands up and move them together to show me how much clearance I have... but for some reason when she gets to less than about 18in of gap, she suddenly panics and closes her hands like I hit something and then opens them back up to a foot or whatever. :mur: :confused3:Not much better than standing where I can't see her, but at least I know I won't run over her now. :eek:

:thumbsup::laughing:

Didn't see where 2005 was mentioned. The 2012's up and especially the 2014's and up are certainly a long way from being little.

Other than bulging out the body steel to make it look big, did they actually do anything to any internals to fill all that space up? From my understanding the Toyotas are still mostly "turn of the century" technology...

I talked to my nephew who is sales manager for a toyota store. I called him and asked the mileage of a new Tundra that had an 11k tow capacity. It was 13-17. Told him we could stop there. No need to price. I think they are a great truck but not accepting that.

That is inexcusably low for sure. My 2015 F150 SCab 4x4 with the 3.5L ecoboost has been getting 21MPG with me and my tools onboard. When I tow my little BigTex 35SA trailer with my lawn mower on it, I get around 17MPG. On paved roads, I could pull my 22' 14k dovetail loaded with a Tundra and get about 11-13MPG.

Most of my driving is in a small town environment. 18.5mpg.

When I go out on the open road, I average 23.5.

4.6 L engine.

Backup assist works very well. I didn't think I needed it but I found it will take you to a point just short of jackknife but not quite which is handy. The way it works is it uses the backup camera and a checkerboard sticker you put on the trailer tongue. You enter 4 measurements into the truck computer and it does the rest. The measurements define the relationship between the camera, hitch ball, target sticker and axle centerline

My truck came with that, but it sounds like such a PITA to use that I haven't installed the stickers and what not yet

Yup. I keep telling her, or anyone who is helping, that if they cannot see me in the side mirror, I cannot see them. Works very well!

I typically get 22 to 25 miles per gallon going to and from the cottage, empty. That is with a 2016 F150 super crew 4 x 4 with a 5.0 L.

I have never gotten as low as 11 miles per gallon, the matter what I have been towing.
