"blind" office supplies

Haven't done an interent search yet, however, with no experience in this subject, also looking for feedback/personal experiences as well per this topic.

Any place to buy office supplies for the blind?

Took me 15 years to get one phone call to find out there is actually a talking t-stat for the blind, so I can't help but think there is some kind of market for office supplies for blind people.

I'll be checking with the NC school for the blind tomorrow, but as mentioned, if anyone has had some experience (good and bad with dealing with certain suppliers for example) any feedback would be appreciative.

OK im a little slow today but im confused.... What sort of stuff are thinking about that a blind person could use, that a normal office supply place wouldn't carry??

For one, something that convert letters into braille. Remember that old handheld "clicker" that would type raised letters onto that "hard" tape that you could stick on things (you'd "pick" the letter, press down, and it would put the letter on the tape)? I asked him if he could read raised letters, he mentioned yes, but if it could "print" the letters that you choose into braille, it would make it that much easier for him to read it.

Perhaps special key chains for his numerous keys?

Just things in general that I would never of thought of that perhaps would make a blind persons life a little easier if he has business and is depending on others to help him.

I've already suggested a tackle box with individualized compartments for all of his keys so he can keep them all in one place, and still be able to indentify them without having to rely up others (he's got about 60 different keys and usually just kept them in his pocket stored in a bag). The question is how to lable the indiviualized compartments?

I'm honestly not sure if there are speciffic "office supplies" for blind people, just a new avenue of thought and seeing if I can help.

Figuring since I had no clue about that blind t-stat, there may be a world of product out there in other areas for the blind that I'm not aware of (his wife, who is blind as well, thought the raised tape idea with letters was a good idea that they didn't think of).

Your idea for contacting the school for the blind is your best bet. My nephew did quite a lot of work for one in Indianapolis when he was in Boy Scouts. They have everything figured out and know where to get stuff and who supplies it, etc...

It may be a bit off the subject but the Sports Car Club I used to belong to held a car rally each year with the school for the blind. Each car had a navigator with the rally instructions printed in Braille. Each driver was given a panic envelope that they could open after 4 hours to tell them where the dinner was located if they got really lost.

Everyone had a lot of fun.

The school in NC (the 8th oldest school for the blind in the U.S) is named Morehead. I'm not laughing at the school itself, but man, the jokes that can be had

Edit: Had to laugh tonight. First time I met the wifes seeing eye dog. I've heard so much about him (litterally saving his life in traffic). 10 year old lab, great shape. The wife was out with the her dog tonight, and the dog got around their garbage can. That dog sniffed out a twinkie wrapper and grabbed it so fast it was funny. Reminded me exactly of the same habits of our "untrained" 9 year old yellow lab. Guess training only goes so far

Labs are great dogs, but a Lab is still a Lab. We have really enjoyed ours but they do have their moments.

How about text to voice software? Dragon Naturally Speaking is one that is highly rated. It is published by Nuance.
