Blame game

Energy industry(specifically oil companies) are the only business I know of, that pass any and all increased costs DIRECTLY to consumers.

Not sure of your point? All for-profit businesses must pass their costs on to the consumer, or they won't stay in business. Doesn't matter how many middlemen involved, the 'stuff' still rolls downhill.

I'm not defending oil industry profits, just the realities of free enterprise. The mom and pop gas stations have to pay the going price, but if they want to stay in business, they have to include their costs also.

April 27, 2010

(AP) BP PLC, Europe's second-largest oil company, said Tuesday that first-quarter profit more than doubled from a year earlier to $6.1 billion due to higher crude prices and lower production costs and taxes.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why would BP need to pass the clean-up costs to the consumer when BP appears to have enough money already! Oh wait a minute, I forgot about shareholder dividends. No need for the shareholders to suffer when John Q. Public will pay every time he fills up at the gas station.

This oil leak has gone on too long!!
Maybe some Navy guys can chime in on this thought:
Why cant the Navy just torpedo or explode the well surface and collapse the well?

We've got a bunch of career politicians is what we have.

I like the quote from Edward R. Murrow, too.

The career bureaucrats really run things and they scare me more than the crooked politicians...the politicians just come in for their term but the bureaucrats running all the federal government are the ones that endure. Pray hard!

Look at it this way.... if you blow up a fire hydrant it still keeps spewing water. The oil under the sea bed is under incredible pressure. Once they pierced the layers of rock above it, it comes squirting out all by itself. The only way to stop it is plug the pipe.

For the sake of conversation, a fire hydrant is not the same thing!
This oil is 2 miles bellow sea bottom, One would think you could cause a collapse about a 1/4 mile deep that could plug the hole?

That reminds me of the old saying....." Even if all you have is a bucket of Manure, at least you could stir it up ! "

or the Jerry Clower tape when Leroy was up in the tree with a Coon the dogs had treed and his buddy was on the ground with a shot gun and Leroy yelled for help and his buddy said - but I might hit you and Leroy said..just shoot up here anywhere cause one of us needs some relief...

Bob, did you forget it wasn't a coon? I can identify with Jerry Clower's Coon Huntin' Story because my Dad's best friend raised, trained, and sold coon hounds. I've been on coon hunts with as many as 11 dogs. And we never carried a gun at all. When the dogs treed a coon, one of us had to climb up there and make that coon jump out of the tree. Fortunately, I never encountered anything up in a tree except a coon.
