CD,if you,re thinkin me no I,m not offended.I would like folks to just start talking to each other.We,re all in this same world.We all get upset,thats being human,we,ve just forgoten how to talk to each other.There isn,t a person on here that I woudn,t sit and have a beer or coffee with.In many ways I think because people now talk in this manner of no face to face makes it easy to miss the look in a face,a smile or snarl,its so hard to truely put a tag on.Bottum line for me is the generations coming up I,v enjoyed so much and want my wee ones to have the same chanceDave

I know there are other members and visitors on here that work offshore or on land in the oil and gas industry. All I ask is for everyone to please remember the guys that did not and did get off the Horizon. Some of the survivors I've spoken with were almost to the point of feeling guilty they survived, because they couldn't rescue their friends and coworkers from an inferno. These people were not cold-blooded executives in business suits with an eye on the dividend per share. They were people just like a lot of us on here with hopes, dreams, families, and plans for the future. Sorry if I've gone on too long. Thanks.

First, I am truly sorry for the loss of your friends and crewmates. I am offshore at the moment working at the wellsite (along with hundreds of others) with reps from the rig aboard, working nonstop as expected to get this thing closed off. There is not a day most of us don't think of the lives lost and the spill consequences while at the same time focusiing on the job at hand.

My thoughts are far away from a blame culture that the media and politicians contribute to. Rather the focus is on fixing the problem and then hopefully taking lessons learned and apply them to preventative measures in the future.

As I was working yesterday I took a moment and was able to count 35 vessels in the immediate area all involved in either direct intervention, cleanup, or support of both. These are some of the most capable vessels in the world. An Unprecedented effort, as it should be, in my 30+ years of working offshore. There are probably (without exageration) hundreds more ashore in support of this operation and it's amazing how smoothly it's going allbeit not as quickly as everyone would want.

Just be aware everyone involved is working as hard as possible towards resolution.

If I've been diligent to the point of being offensive about defending the crews aboard the Deepwater Horizon, I apologize for being offensive, but not for my diligence.

I would like to think that there is no reason for you to have to defend those workers who died in this horrible situation.

The question I have is has a procedure such as this ever been tried before in a "real life" situation and was it successful? I realize you can't plan for every unforseen accident, but in the oil drilling business in the ocean, I can't help but think that something like this would be a possibilty that you would prepare for.

As far as the "dome" or "top hat" method, I think that has only been done in shallower water, but I have no knowledge of the details.

Relief wells have been drilled in past cases. Another rig drills into the existing wellbore and kills it using a kill weight fluid and/or cement. The relief wells I am aware of were drilled while the existing well was contained by the original drilling rig, but at a pressure too high to be dealt with by the original rig. In other words they could hold it, but they couldn't kill it for whatever reason or limitation. The wells I'm aware of were not in water this deep, but it'll work.

As this is an extreme situation, I hear rumblings this morning that BP is about to attempt something even more extreme. I won't say any more than that.

The impression I got from the lady in our Sunday school class was that the situation came on the crew rather quickly and there were maybe a series of fail safes that didn't work.

My impression may be wrong or I may have misunderstood her. I certainly don't know a thing about oil rigs so please don't take this as fact

I do know that she was badly shaken and was deeply grieving for the friend she lost in the accident. I guess there's a fairly tight knit community of folks who work in this area.

I know that hurricanes have gone through the area and disrupted the flow of oil and yet the spill from the sinking rig is bigger? The news coverage is more oriented to telling me what could happen, not what actually is going on Senate hearing will show pontificating and CYA:confused2:
Just seems like it would be better if news media stuck to facts rather than filling air time with "could happen".

Heard on the news yesterday that some of the folks involved are going to pull up a 150 year old law from the marine industray from sunken ships that puts the value at 0. Zip libility for this mess. Any you wonder why old laws are never taken off the books.
