Has anyone adjusted the valve lash on their 370D Beaver? What clearance works best for this engine? I think the manual specifies 0.16 for both the intake and exhaust while apparently they were previously set at around 0.14 for the intake and 0.15 for the exhaust. This tractor doesn't have an hour meter, but it may have less than 2,000 hrs since it appears to still be in above average shape for one that is over twenty years old. It is very cold natured and hard to start when the temperatures are less than those of the summer days. When it does start, the exhaust has a small amount of continuous black smoke which might indicate normal ring wear and or improper valve lash.

I don't have previous experience with diesels and would appreciate some input on this Beaver.

Thanks,

I'd adjust to what the factory specifies, which is .014" every 400 hours.

Leonard, thanks for the spec. on the valve lash. I realized after posting the message I placed the decimal in the wrong space on the valve clearance. That could potentially make a big difference! :)
