Battery Light B2910

The battery light comes on when I start the tractor. As I crank up the RPMs, it begins to dim and goes out at around 2,000 RPM.

I tightened the belt, visually inspected the wiring, removed and cleaned a few connections. All looks good to my untrained eye. What are my next steps?

It should go out a little above idle. Try monitoring the generator output voltage as various engine speeds. It sounds like the brushes may be worn out. Replacing them is generally a simple process. Another option is a defective voltage regulator but I'd start with the brushes.

Assuming that your battery is the standard 12V wet cell, a proper working alternator or generator should be putting about 14.5 volts into the battery, measured at the battery, with the engine running at a fast idle or just above idle.

Checked with a multimeter. Battery reads around 12v. With tractor running, it’s basically the same reading.

Could it be as simple as the battery not taking a charge? Posting/thinking out loud.

Wouldn't the B2910 have the dynamo?

As someone suggested, you could have a bad battery. Take it out and go to a auto parts place and have them check it.

It's probably the voltage regulator. There are a few threads on here about it specifically. If you buy one, I'd suggest just getting the genuine Kubota part. I tried the cheaper version via Amazon and even though it looked IDENTICAL, it only lasted a few weeks. Once I replaced with OEM, it's been good now for several years.

Mine actually went up in smoke and I was lucky that it didn't catch fire. Do you notice any smell, like burning rubber? The voltage regulator is behind the dash panel.
